An 18th century explorer sets out on an epic journey to map the forbidden uncharted lands of Transylvania only to discover its dark secrets and dangerous creatures hidden in a cursed, fantastical forest.
Forbidden Empire Film Synopsis
Early 18th century. Cartographer Jonathan Green undertakes a scientific voyage from Europe to the East. Having passed through Transylvania and crossed the Carpathian Mountains, he finds himself in a small village lost in impassible woods. Nothing but chance and heavy fog could bring him to this cursed place. People who live here do not resemble any other people which the traveler saw before that. The villagers, having dug a deep moat to fend themselves from the rest of the world, share a naive belief that they could save themselves from evil, failing to understand that evil has made its nest in their souls and is waiting for an opportunity to gush out upon the world.

A chore to watchDidn't realize this was a dubbed film. It appears that the English speaking actors originally spoke in English, which was then dubbed over to "Russian"? maybe; and, then dubbed over again back to English. None of the subplots were very well developed and seemed to be hanging loosely out there somewhere. As another reviewer stated previously, "it is a bit of a mess"..HtoothScore: 3/5

A mess overallBad overall. Mostly dubbed in English from original language (likely Russian), it is a bit of a mess. Dialogue between Russian actors and English actors clearly not knowing Russian. The English actors was the reason I rented this movie hoping it would be decent. Unfortunately, a mediocre cast of Russian actors and mediocre settings made everything even worse. It could have been better had it not been so terribly dubbed and edited better. Or even better, how about cast actors that can speak English or just leave the original Russian and have subtitles? But overall a mess not really worth watching. Don’t let the fact that there are a couple of good English actors involved fool you!.MaumaubisScore: 2/5
Really tried to like it.For the record: I almost always finish movies. Even bad ones, just because there might be a redeeming gem somewhere in the pile.
I turned off Forbidden Empire after about twenty minutes.
My single biggest issue is dubbing. I hate vocal dubbing, usually just because I’m a techie, and paying attention to quality issues like audio/video synchronization is second nature. But this movie goes a step beyond that, to breaking the narrative in places where it’s obvious characters are supposed to be having communication problems because they speak different languages — but they’re all “speaking” the same language..DickL13Score: 1/5
Interesting but...Too bad they chose to dub instead of subtitle. I'm sure they had they're reasons. It woud have been pretty good otherwise. There was an intentional metaphor at play, so I watched it through because I like mythology in film. The dubbing made it far less profound unfortunately. The acting seemed decent. Hard to tell. Τίποτα όμως από τύχη και βαριά ομίχλη θα μπορούσε να τον φέρει σε αυτό το καταραμένο μέρος. Οι άνθρωποι που ζουν εδώ δεν μοιάζουν με κανένα άλλο λαό που ο ταξιδιώτης είδε πριν από αυτό.
