Sharks are most aggressive and most active in the dark, but the fact is, we know very little else about the nocturnal nature of these creatures. Now, armed with the latest in infrared thermography cameras and night vision technology, a team of divers travels around the world and descends into the sharks' dangerous after-dark hunting grounds. Their goal is to learn more about how Great Whites, Six-Gills, and Tiger Sharks behave after the sun goes down. Shark Week is back!

REALLY?I used to love shark week. But now they have turned it into a bunch of low grade horror films for the most part. They mainly focus on topics relating to sharks killing humans. You are more likly to be struck by lightening than being involved in a shark attacks, the odds are ever greater for being in a lethal one. These are not mindless killing machines, they are great, beatiful, wonderful predators. Why not just name the episodes Jaws 5,6,7,8,9,10 and get it over with? I am a avid snorkeler and have scuba dived a bunch of times. I most have dived with some of the tamer sharks like nurses, not tigers or great whites. I have no scars and the only injury i sustained was to my pride, which now knows that it is not the top predator and that there are things more powerful and amazing than it. This is sad people. Maybe they should rename it shark attack week for all it does. It is just making people more scared of sharks. Jellies are more dangerous then most sharks. At least when you give the sharks the respect they diserve. I bet the statistics for shark deaths are going to go up this year. They have pulled off the perfect buchery of shark week. Worth it but not completelyShark week is my favorite week on Discovery Channel. It has some of the most exciting shows all year during it, but unfortunately they are not completely accurate. They put sharks into a negative spotlight with shows centered around fear, death, and suffering. Sharks truely are not as bad as the Discovery Channel portrays them to be, and in the future I would like to see more factual shows on sharks. If I wanted Shark Attack movies, I'd watch Jaws.I love Sharks, and I love Shark Week, for the most part - but this year's are just sensationalist garbage. I've studied the Jersey Shark attacks, and watching the reenactment is just painful; while the attacks are interesting in themselves, what's truly interesting about them is their effect on people and the media. If I wanted to watch a suspense movie about shark attacks...I'd watch Jaws. When is the Discovery Channel going to stop insulting our intelligence and get more Shark Week specials with scientific content? I'd hoped we'd gotten over demonizing sharks, but apparently not. Sheesh, the Mythbuster’s special was more educational than many of these. That’s pretty sad..Score: 1/5

Shark Week 2009I was very disappointed by Shark Week. It is sensationalist nonsense that only fuels stereotypes of sharks as vicious man eaters. They are not something to be feared, but something to be respected. Their predatory nature is essential to the balance of the ocean's delicate ecosystem. We are not their natural prey, and every shark attack is a result of mistaken identity or wrong place/wrong time. They are slowly becoming extinct, and vilifying them only helps to justify the reduction of their numbers. Excellent ProgramShark Week is an excellent program. I find the shows to be quite good, plus I find that kids are drawn to them which is awesome. It's very important for following generations to become aware of the importance of sharks. iTunes should also include past shark week (I noticed the US iTunes store has shark week as far back as 2006). Shark Week: Blood In the WaterThis is an incredible piece of filming, with good actors, outstanding special FX, and a very good 1916 feel to the whole thing. However, Shark Week has sworn to tell us the turth about Sharks. I have studdied sharks since I was 10. I know a lot of things, and I get a lot of info from previous seasons of Shark Week. However... This was more of a horror film, with no end to the brutal attacks in sight. By the end, I just wanted the Shark to die, and that's not me, so I know the fish was made out to be a real monster. Had this been the first Shark documentary I ever saw, I may NEVER had had anything to do with Sharks. While suggesting that in the modern time, we know more about which species of Shark are dangerous and how to potentially avoid them, this deep voiced narrater offers us next to no consolation that the attacks are mistaken identity cases, and that it is simply a rogue blood-thirsty shark. This leaves us with a bad taste of fear in our mouth that rogue sharks may not be as rare as first thought. Also, the dark tone of this film gives us the impression that the shark was hungrily devouring the Humans, fully aware that they were not of a Shark's normal diet. In most cases, Sharks attack, take a limb, then bugger off because we don't taste very good. This shark seemed too like feeding on Human bodies, as dipicted in the middle of the film. I will spoil no more of the film, but I will say this is not a good place to start for new Shark fanatics, as it will instill a cold fear in you, as it did briefly for me. I have not seen the rest of the episodes yet, but that first one does not give me very high hopes..Score: 3/5
Great Content - Terrible DeliveryThere's nothing wrong with Discovery's Shark Week content - quite an exciting documentary series. The problem lies with this specific download... Only download this if you plan on watching it on: - old, analogue-style, standard definition television - not-full screen on your computer screen (i.e. about 1/3 the size of your screen) - on an iPod Touch or iPhone This looks like complete garbage on a HDTV. I can't understand why Apple doesn't set the standard and have at minimum, 480p resolution for it's "Standard Definition" content. 480p is passable on HDTVs. And unfortunately, an HD version is not being offered for Shark Week 2009, despite a blu-ray version being available for purchase/rent..Score: 1/5
Shark Week better than other!Shark Week is one of the best shark documentaries available, unlike the others who tries to portray sharks as a man-eater and should not be allowed to exist and even supports shark-finning(when a fisherman catches a shark and cuts its fins away and throws it back in the ocean). Shark Week, however, portrays sharks attacks as mistaken identity, and most victims died for bloodloss not getting eaten entirely by a shark.
