Inspired by the real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs, Bones is a darkly amusing drama centered on Dr. Temperance Brennan and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth. As Season 5 begins, Booth and Brennan contend with the emotional fallout resulting from the sea-change in their relationship brought about by events at the end of last season. F.B.I. Agent Seeley Booth is teamed up with forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan to solve some of the most baffling and bizarre crimes ever. Optimally suspenseful"Bones'" producers have taken viewers through a brilliant multitude of suspenseful episodes. Some weaker than others, but the strength of the cast as actors individually and as a team makes for a must-see television series. The dynamic tenseness between Booth and Bones is consistently full of humor while maintaining the reason why they are there-to investigate tough murder mysteries. Kathy Reichs has produced a far superior heroine than any other crime mystery show on television, both cable and network. The supporting cast, while it has undergone some changes, have upset the apple cart only tentatively. I do wish Zach remained in the series as his highly eccentric character added a touch of the straight-man-type to the overall cast scheme. The change of Jeffersonian directors was refreshing, drawing immediate excitement with the revelation that this show can and will reveal multicultural relationships. However, their casting diversity appears to end there. That's my biggest disappointment with the series. Angela gives a sense of bi-culturalism but I am confident that these producers are fully capable of finding new characters to inject either as an addition to the ongoing cast or provide for more people of color in positive roles instead of stereotypical ones, such as the gay/drag episode mentioned by a disgruntled viewer who apparently is no longer watching the show due to its insensitivity to those who are gay, bi-sexual, transgender and other sexual orientations and lifestyles. I want to close by saying that "Bones" along with "The Closer" with Kyra Sedgewick, not only have women as their leading actors but display them as strong, bright women who are not so easily duped by the males, all males in all scripts. And it stuns me that Fox is the network that continues to break glass ceilings repeatedly, creating much dissonance given their conservative reputation on the news and public affairs side of the network. Recall who were the first two presidents in the high-ball, action series "24." They were African American men, and were brothers. Then in the final season, Fox has a woman in the role as President of the United States, President Taylor, while the Nixonish-type character, President Logan,is played out convincingly, leaving him as the ultimate villain. So Fox daringly introduces diversity into major roles in numerous shows but failed to do so in "Bones." When my wife and I want to see good and enjoyable mystery shows, Bones is among the top two we watch. Fortunately Bones and The Closer are usually not on cable simultaneously. Temperance Brennan and Agent Booth always end the show in a way that brings you back. And, in this past season, the final episode left us with plenty to speculate. The entire team is going in different directions. What will happen with this ultimate of science-based crime fighting team? I'm sure there are many more people beginning to speculate, even while a couple or so months remain for us to see what happens next. Stay tuned! We surely will. In the meantime, it's great watching the repeats. Great entertainment..Score: 5/5

Bones, Season 703 November 201113 Episodes

Bones, a darkly amusing procedural entering its seventh season, is inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs. Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and writes novels on the side. When the standard methods of identifying a body are useless (when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed), law enforcement calls on Brennan for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victim's bones. While most people can't handle Brennan's intelligence, her drive for the truth or the way she flings herself headlong into every investigation, Special agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) of the FBI's Homicide Investigations Unit is an exception. A former Army sniper, Booth mistrusts science and scientists - the "squints," as he calls them - who pore over the physical evidence of a crime. But even he cannot deny that the combination of his people-smarts and Brennan's scientific acumen makes them a formidable duo. In last season's final episode, Brennan stunned Booth when she revealed the news that she was pregnant with his child. In the Season Seven premiere, we pick up with the new couple well into Brennan's pregnancy. Still seeing the world from radically different perspectives, Booth and Brennan grapple with the issues surrounding the upcoming birth of their child - all while continuing to deal with a series of gruesome and baffling crimes. And this season brings more than a baby. Our team will also have to contend with a nefarious tech-savvy foe who uses his unparalleled skills to challenge Booth, Brennan and the squints to solve a string of murders designed to embarrass and humiliate them.

Several questions were left hanging at the end of Season 2: What happened after Angela and Hodgins fled the altar, leaving Brennan and Booth to fill the gap? Will Zack go to Iraq? If so, what will happen to him there? Will Cam and Booth resume their on-again, off-again relationship? In the third season of Bones, Brennan and Booth find themselves on the trail of a serial killer who discards his victims' remains off freeway overpasses. Brennan also must deal with the trial of her father, Max Keenan, for the murder of the Deputy Director of the FBI.

The second season of Bones follows Dr. Temperance Brennan's discovery about her parents' real identities, her mother's murder, and her father's disappearance. Special Agent Seely Booth has pledged all his FBI muscle and steadfast support to follow the trail of clues, find Brennan's father, and give Brennan the answers she's been seeking for 15 years. Brennan's intelligence and social awkwardness mean that – aside from Booth – she is most comfortable with her equally brilliant colleagues: Angela Montenegro, who specializes in the three-dimensional reconstruction of crime scenes and victims' facial features, is Brennan's earthy and bawdy best friend; Brennan's grad student and assistant Zack Addy is a young prodigy; and conspiracy theorist Dr. Jack Hodgins is an expert on insects, spores, and minerals. From executive producers Hart Hanson, Barry Josephson and Stephen Nathan comes the fourth exciting season of Bones, a darkly amusing procedural with humor, heart and character, inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs. When the standard methods of identifying a body are useless — when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that CSI gives up — law enforcement calls in Brennan for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victim’s bones. Most law enforcement can’t handle Brennan’s intelligence, her drive for the truth or the way she flings herself headlong into every investigation. Special Agent Seeley Booth of the FBI’s Homicide Investigations Unit is the exception. A former Army sniper, Booth mistrusts science and scientists — the “squints,” as he calls them — who pore over the physical evidence of a crime. But even he cannot deny that the combination of his people-smarts and Brennan’s scientific acumen makes them a formidable team.

Season 5
