The hit action series continues to explore the inner workings and missions carried out by the clandestine government organization known as Section One. Nikita (Peta Wilson) knows that life as she knew it is gone and, playing the role of the ruthless killer her employers think she is, she depends on her lethal skills and drop-dead looks to achieve her dangerous objectives. Michael (Roy Dupuis) remains an enigma, yet his actions suggest that he genuinely cares for Nikita. It was adapted for television by Joel Surnow. The series was first telecast in North America on the USA Network cable channel on January 13, 1997, and ran for five television seasons—until March 2001. The series was also aired in Canada on the over-the-air CTV Television Network. La Femme Nikita was the highest-rated drama on American basic cable during its first two seasons. It was also distributed in some other countries, and it continues to have a strong cult following.

But when Bates shoots Michael and plans to kill Nikita, Terry shoots Bates dead. Michael tells Nikita that Terry will be allowed to deliver her baby, and then she'll be killed. Despite Nikita's efforts to hide Michael's condition, Madeline and Operations detect the presence of the drug in Michael's blood, but Walter has an antidote to restore Michael to his normal state.

After the successful mission, Michael and Andrea begin a romance and eventually have sex. Nikita rescues Michael when Andrea tries to kill him, and Section One eliminates Andrea. Meanwhile, even though Walter remains furious at Operations for Belinda's death, he lies to a Section investigator in order to hide a mistake made by Operations.
