In Season Five, the Flintstones (Fred, Wilma and baby Pebbles) and the Rubbles (Barney, Betty and baby Bamm-Bamm) still delight young and old with prehistoric versions of modern conveniences and modern predicaments. Over 26 episodes, the two stone-age families travel in a time machine, tangle with jewel thieves, spies and celebrity cops and get caught in a handful of show-business fiascos. Usually in the thick of things, the clueless Fred is menaced by a mad scientist, joins a rodeo, takes flying lessons, impersonates royalty and plays Santa Claus in a really big way. While Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm grow bigger and cuter, the rivalry between their parents over who's Bedrock's Most Beautiful Baby causes a temporary rift. "The Flintstones" now on the rocksWhile this season might inspire nostalgia among some of you, I would not recommend this season to others. "The Flintstones" was a good show in its first two-or-so seasons when it was an "adult cartoon" (albeit one with a large following among kids), but by this time the show had now crossed over deep into kids' show territory by putting greater emphasis on the fantasy elements (and that's saying something given the show was a fantasy to begin with). True, the show was still in prime time, but it did not attract quite as big of an adult following as it did a few years earlier. With such blatant pandering toward the kids, it is no wonder that the show ended up being ghettoized as children's programming in the four-plus decades to come..Score: 3/5
