Academy Award winner Humphrey Bogart stars in this classic film noir as tough San Francisco private detective Sam Spade in the classic, convoluted story of Spade's involvement with a deadly band of international thieves who will lie, double cross and murder to obtain a small, jewel-encrusted statue known as The Maltese Falcon. Sam Spade's (Bogart) partner, Miles Archer (Jerome Cowan), accepts a job protecting a young woman (Mary Astor). Neither Spade nor Archer believe the woman or the story she tells them, but they do believe her money. Then, when Archer is murdered, Spade's search for the killer drags him in the web of lies and death spun by the desperate people seeking The Maltese Falcon.
A private detective takes on a case that involves him with three eccentric criminals, a beautiful liar, and their quest for a priceless statuette.

Edmund Charles - AuthorClassic Gum-Shoe private dick film. Great lines and Bogart is never better in form or dialogue. This film started him on his path to first-rate movie stardom. The lines from this movie are clever and witty without becoming over-bearing or droll. See this one folks. The characters and script are well in great form and the story plots weaves itself neatly across the screen with an even flow that is intriguing but never confusing (just don't take a long bathroom break)..Score: 5/5
Great Classic on a great media deviceI am new to ipod touch. This is a great movie and I am glad itunes had it available. I enjoyed watching it on the small screen on a recent flight...and also watching it on my 42 inch LCD using the audio/video component cable. I would recommend this classic if you like film noir. Just about my favorite film noirHumphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre are utterly unforgettable, as is John Huston's remarkable directorial debut, sleekly gliding through scene after inspired scene. Sydney Greenstreet and Mary Astor help to style the film in its mystery, as well, and Elisha Cook, Jr. plays probably the most sympathetic second-rate bodyguard on film..Score: 5/5

Best Movie ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)I absolutly adore this movie. Humphrey Bogart is the best actor that ever lived. This is actually one of the movies that made him a star and my favorite of all his films. The rest of the cast is great too. It's actually hard to believe that this was Sydney Greenstreet's (the fat man) first film. If you like this movie other Bogie films I recommend are Casablanca, To Have and Have Not, Key Largo, Across the Pacific, High Sierra, and They Drive by Night. The "drinking man" exchange between Spade and GutmanHaven't seen the original, but this scene stills appear to be incomplete. If you pay attention to the coversation detail, there are parts missing, but it's still a pretty good scene. I only comment on this because I read a review here in iTunes that reported the missing parts were all back in and correct. That comment was what helped me decide to download this movie.
