ANTARCTICA: A YEAR ON ICE is a visually stunning journey to the end of the world. Guided by nature photographer Anthony Powell, we experience firsthand the beauty and brutality of the most severe environment on Earth along with the hardy and devoted people who call it home year-round. Capturing epic battles against hellacious storms, quiet reveries of nature's grandeur, and everyday moments of humanity, this one-of-a-kind documentary reveals a close-knit international community of scientists, craftsmen and laborers that thrive in a land few have ever experienced. Filmed over 10 years on the continent, ANTARCTICA combines spectacular photography and a deeply personal adventure to capture the splendor of the frozen planet like no film before it.
Filling the giant screen with stunning time-lapse vistas of Antarctica, and detailing year-round life at McMurdo and Scott Base, Anthony Powell’s documentary is a potent hymn to the icy continent and the heavens above.

Bravo, Bravo! After spending a summer in Antarctica, I have always had a difficult time relaying the feelings, sights and good fortune I had living down there as a firefighter. I often get asked questions about what it's like, and my answers along with photos and videos seem mediocre in comparison to the absolute beauty of this continent. This movie has depicted, what no amount of my words could, just how unbelievable it is down there. I am one of the very lucky few in the world to have been there, lived there and missed being there. Watch this documentary, and witness the beauty our planet has. -R.Score: 5/5
Academy Award for Best Doc (if not best picture)This film is amazing, more story then all the academy award films combined. THEE most incredible cinematography. The reviews in the trailer say “jaw-dropping”, and they were. I don’t like most films today but this was not just a film, it was really experiencing antarctica for a year. Cheers to the great filmmakers that put this together. My dreams of visiting antarctica can be put away, I went there, in the warm comfort of my apartment in Chicago :).Score: 5/5
Unfortunate last line to the film.It is a beautiful film, but I don’t understand why the director chose that last line: “…people are cattle…” That was truly an unfortunate and uninspiring end to an otherwise beautiful film. That last line knocked down two stars from my rating, but my wife convinced me to add another star. Grudgingly….Score: 4/5

Honest AntarcticaThis documentary is the real Antarctica. You can keep all those IMAX shots of ice and stories of Shackleton. Finding out what Antarctica is really, actually like, with no filter, is to me even more interesting to me..Score: 5/5
Simply Mind-Blowing!This is the best documentary I have ever seen in my life. The stunning visuals alone are simply breathtaking and mind-blowing. This doc gives us all a very real and extremely rare glimpse at what it's like to be in this amazing place called Antarctica. I, myself, have never really given much thought as to what it would be like to be there. I always just pictured Antarctica as an extremely cold, brutal, even borderline uninhabitable place to be, and yes, it can be that (especially during the winter), but this doc shows the absolutely beautiful and stunning side of this gargantuan environment that most of us have never had the pleasure of witnessing before. It took Anthony Powell 10 years to make this film, and those 10 years definitely paid off because they resulted in one of the most stunning documentaries ever made (in my opinion). I just love it, it's definitely going into my collection of documentaries!.Score: 5/5
Great movie/documentary!This movie is a keeper! There is something so facinating about the way Antz filmed this movie. He has captured the human essense of living for a whole year in Antartica and the way living there affects people. A must see movie!.Score: 5/5
I love this movie!I first got interested in this sort of documentary via Encounters at the End of the World, Werner Herzog's quirky documentary about the people of Antarctica. Now this oneis by a guy I never heard of, but I thought I'd give it a try. Wow, it's such a deep insight. The producer/director/cinemtographer was a Radar Technician at McMurdo station.... but his work is absolutely brilliant. The time-lapse work in particular is stunning. And his insight into the people, especially of those who winter over in the stations... Herzog never saw that. I learned about T3 syndrome, which only people who spend the winters in Antarctica get. I saw incredible beauty. Seriously, this guy should have won some major awards for this doc. It makes the Herzon effort look phoned-in..Score: 5/5
