The last day in the Gulf before the Nimitz heads home. The jets take off, laden with ordnance, and return hours later, still carrying the same bombs. As the Nimitz crosses the equator, the entire ship takes part in the Crossing the Line Ceremony, an ancient maritime ritual. In the middle of flight operations, a storm arises in the South Indian Ocean. The deck pitches violently, turning the already dangerous task of landing on the carrier into a nail-biting, heart-pounding drama. This program contains explicit language. WOW!As a veteran of the Navy when female sailors did not board combatants as part of crews, I awestruck!!!! I am particularly amazed that such a product could be presented on PBS. What is up with these previews...Can you please redo your previews. Every single preview is 26 seconds long, of which 22 are the intro for the show. So we are left with 4 seconds of a "real" preview. Sorry, but before I make a purchase, i'd like to get a better idea of what the show is about, and quite frankly, 4 seconds isn't enough to determin anything..Score: 5/5

Great!!This is a great season and is tv at its best. My husband is on a different carrier in the US Navy. It was nice to watch this show because it gives military wives and families a great idea of what goes on in a carrier. I highly recomend this!!.Score: 5/5
Great cinematography but too much whiningThis was a good idea. However, the views expressed were typical of today's Navy and our youth in general. For people that have never been in the Navy it will be eye opening. For those of us that have served, and still do, it is somewhat embarrassing. This isn't like going off to college; it is taking part in something bigger than you. It is becoming a Sailor. If you don't want to take orders, do hard work, and become something better than you are right now, then don't join. And please stop whining about how hard it is to be in the Navy. Amazingly fresh, interesting and inspiringCome and join the lives of those who go out and put their lives on the line for our country. I wasn't sure how I would like this but it was extremely well made and the stories are very personal and true. Having spent 7 years in the service, I was surprised at how open, unvarnished and raw the footage is. True military life, pimples and all..Score: 5/5
Best made for TV Documentary of the year...I don't have any friends in the armed forces, I really don't know much about the military in general. So I am not giving five stars to this series because I know someone in the Navy, but because of the incredible storytelling of this show. The entire production team that worked on this did an incredible job (not to sound sappy). Most people think of the Director(s) and Editor(s) first, but the camerawork and clarity of audio/visuals in this extreme filming environment was second to none. I bought the entire season and watched in over the past two days. That says a lot about a show when the story is so compelling that it holds the audiences attention for ten hours and audience still wants more! Each episode had such a variety of sub-topics that it never got boring. There were so many emotions throughout the series. Some epsisodes were all about toughness, while others were sad/ bitter-sweet. By the end, it felt like you actually knew some of these people. The only thing I found annoying was the redundancy between some of the episodes. For example, the story about one guys carnival employed parents abandoning him when he was little. Sure it made for a great story, but it felt played out after seeing the same footage twice in the regular season and then in the preview. That's another thing, DO NOT WATCH THE PREVIEW, it gives away many of the best moments in the series. As much as I like this series, I am not sure that it would be smart to spin this series off into each of the military branches. Do we really want Marines, Army, Airforce, and Coastguard spinoffs? If this production team can follow this series up with the same level of quality, then sure. A great show overall, I highly recommend buying the season pass..Score: 5/5

Excellent story-tellingThis is an interesting series, with great stories on the individuals lives of sailors and pilots during a stress-filled Middle Eastern voyage (Iraq). Excellent cinematography.
