The Reins of a Waterfall (Caprica - S1E4) recap & spoilers

6.9
6.9 star

Following Amanda's (Paula Malcomson) public revelation that their daughter was responsible for the MagLev tragedy, the Graystones must face the wrath of angry Capricans. For Daniel (Eric Stoltz) this includes a confrontation with Sam (Sasha Roiz) and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) in which Joseph demands that Daniel reunite him with his daughter's avatar -- the essence of his daughter Tamara (Genevieve Buechner), living on in virtual space. Daniel also realizes he can't deal with his grief in private -- this is all going to play out on a public stage. At the same time, Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Torresani) adjusts to living life in a robot. She hopes her friend Lacy (Magda Apanowicz) will help her escape to another planet -- neighboring Gemenon. Lacy is concerned, however, that she is rousing the suspicions of headmistress (and STO leader) Clarice Willow (Polly Walker). While in V-World, the girls meet a frightened Tamara Adama who doesn't understand what she is or how she came to be here. At the Global Defense Department, Agents Duram (Brian Markinson) and Youngblood escalate their efforts to track down the terrorist group responsible for the bombing..

Where is Season 2?Is there going to be another season? I thought some interesting ideas were presented, but from reading the reviews, they appear to be beyond the insight of most reviewers. Sci-fi buffs, I believe, like sci-fi because of the proposal of the potential, the possiblities, the alernatives without limits, yet it seems those here want ideas/concepts explained to them, rather than reflect on what they are seeing. Connect the dots. Sci-fi is about thinking, not just entertainment. Anyway, i hope the show wasn't killed, i would've liked to see how the cylons came about--especially the 13th Colony. Too bad it appears to have been cancelled. It seems we were just getting to the good stuff-such as where the final seven came from, who created them, the war, perhaps a posat BSG, do the cylons return? i beliove they would..Score: 5/5

Great series but overpriced.Wife and I love the series and we can't say enough but extremely overpriced. Amazon has for $29, c'mon itunes, help a fan out..Score: 5/5

Just so soI was an uber BSG fan. Thought the show was incredible. Had high hopes for this one after the pilot. I think the pilot is really all you need, unfortunately. The show is leaving me cold--mostly cuz I have no one to root for. Also, it's often boring. Beautifully filmed, cool special effects, lovely music. But characters I don't like and a story that moves slowly, makes little sense, and has virtually no relationship to the series I adored (despite being a prequel). Too bad. Had such promise. I doubt I'll renew my season pass for next season..Score: 2/5

Caprica & the download dilemmaIf indeed Caprica is cancelled, I wonder if Syfy will ever divulge the ratio of its broadcast viewership to its iTunes viewership. If 500,000 people download episodes, that's close to $1 million of gross sales revenue per episode just for downloads alone (of which Apple must take a large cut, but still...). If the per episode price was raised to $5, would that provide enough revenue to keep producing the series, or is marginal profitibility insufficient? One would think it would be a good investment in Syfy's long-term brand equity, rather than just focus on short-term profits from wrestling and Ghost Hunters....Score: 4/5

Caprica returnsOk, so I am really happy that this is coming back to Syfy on October 5th. For all of you lame people that know nothing about how to judge Sci-fi or an actual spin-off show like this or SGU then you dont really need to comment about whether you like it or not because you aren't really relevant to me. The acting is great and the show only brings more realism and belief to the idea of a universe where humans vs. cylons exist. For those that were hoping for the all out war between the cylons and the humans that only want to see the blood, this isn't a gorefest show, though it makes you think about some things pretty hard and there are some pretty sweet scenes of violence. It's kind of bringing in a Matrix idea though with the virtual world where you can control anything. I think that is a pretty neat concept and I really want to see how the show is going to progress. I really like what Veronica Tagle commented on in this long list of comments on here..Score: 5/5

The Fate of the 12 Colonies rests on the shoulders of teenage girs.... REALLY?!?I loved BSG. With all it's flaws, it was an engaging and cleverly written show. I even liked the ending, such as it was. It may not have been the ending most of the fans wanted, but I liked the fact that we even got one, which most series' are rarely afforded the luxury. So, the news of Caprica had me really excited. Now, a year and a half later, they return to complete the second half of the first season. I had long abandoned this series, thinking that while the Pilot was so promising, the remainder of the writing was poorly done, and an obvious ploy to garner the attention of the under 20 crowd, which SyFy so desperately craves. It was hard for me to stomach that the fate of the entire 12 Colonies, the creation of Cylons this time around (all of this has happened before, and all of it will happen again), and the impending war that we all know is coming, rests squarely on the shoulders of a handful of snotty, emotionally stunted, and misguided teenage girls. Far fetched to say the least. The second half of the season still rely's too heavily on this premise, but it is starting to age some. There is still time to create the kind of riveting drama this show's predecessor created. Lets hope Ron Moore fires the original writers and starts getting this house in order. Perhaps then it will actually be renewed for a second season. If not, then it surely needs to die the quiet death it deserves. It's a shame to waste such a great franchise on this..Score: 2/5

SyFy Channel Cancels Caprica - Bring the franchise to iTunes! Is it possible SyFy Channel has, as some here have observed, eroded it's viewship by diluting its franchise with Wrestling and B grade sci-fi feature movies... infact, even I, a perma-scifi viewer since childhood, have drifted from the channel due to ridiculous programing unrelated to the genre. It was original programing like the Star Gate series which attracted attention to SyFy, the BSG francise, which initially eluded even me, eventually won my hardened attention. Sadly, Caprica may have failed to gain new viewers purely due to a lack of knowledge of BSG backstory... or, SyFy has lost it's way. Regardless of cause, I hope Ron Moore will find a way to bring his unfinished storytelling to iTunes. "So say we all".Score: 5/5

CAPRICA OH CAPRICAGreat show and acting. I just bought the whole season. too bad SyFy didnt give it a chance. If you are a fan of great acting / drama and Battlestar Galactica, this is a must have for the collection..Score: 5/5

Where is my Caprica?I paid for the full season in good faith, and SiFi cancels the show and I am left holding the bag and I'm out the money I paid for the season pass, I smell a class action law suit coming. I have a feeling that this show being shut down mid season in the age of iTunes is going to have far reaching effects in the world of how network programming is set up. You can not bill people for goods and services and not deliver the content promised. I love Caprica, but I do not enjoy being screwed by NBC and Comcast..Score: 5/5

On the vibrant world of Caprica, in a culture close to our own, two dynamic families — the Graystones and the Adamas — live separately on opposite ends of society until brought together by tragedy. Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz), a computer engineering genius, is spearheading the development of artificial intelligence. Tragedy strikes him and his wife Amanda (Paula Malcomson) when their daughter Zoe (Alessandra Torresani) dies in a terrorist bombing. Also living on Caprica, deeply entrenched in a cultural heritage apart from the rest of civilization, is the Adama clan. The family is helmed by Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), a renowned criminal defense attorney, and father to William (Sina Najafi) and Tamara (Genevieve Beuchner). When Joseph’s wife and daughter perish in the same attack that befell Zoe Graystone, Joseph’s path soon crosses Daniel’s as they unite in grief. Daniel has discovered that Zoe, a computer genius in her own right, had managed to create a life-like avatar of herself, a perfect digital copy. Obsessed with the possibility of seeing his daughter again, Daniel implores Joseph to help him make Zoe’s vision a complete — and the fate of the human race is altered forever . . .
