In all honesty - Good but not greatLegend of Korra is a plot driven show, I still don't feel like it's driven by it's characters the way ATLA was. But I still support the franchise I mean I have to-- I first started watching ATLA when I was 11. Now I'm 20... sad life I know. But it's just one of those shows I'll never give up. In fact I'll probably have my kids watching this stuff because the concept is just AMAZING. I'll now go through the seasonās positives and negatives... The positives: + Great plot twists, stunning visuals, and gripping story + The funnies were very very funny, and the characters have come a long way since Book 1 + It's creative, original, and never stops changing at a very fast pace - this is LOK greatest strength and weakness for me. Yes I love how much my tummy flips as I watch lots of ground breaking actions happen in one episode but sometimes I just long for how my heart used to swell in the good ol days when ATLA would spend a whole episode on Aang teaching a bunch of fire nation kids to dance, why? Because they were helping us further fall in love with the beautiful characters and relationships that made ATLA the fun filled unforgettable legend that is was. This leads us into the negatives: - Too fast! Like I said sometimes I just want it to slowwww downnnn, and let us have some time to get to know the characters and have their relationships between each other grow a little bit more. I'm not too worried about the Mako and Korra thing because the relationship never really had time to grow on me. Yeah they kiss at the end of Season 1 and already at the start of Season 2 they're fighting. Really? A little bit more connection would have been nice to connect to. - It needs more connection to ATLA (its roots and humble beginnings! The show that started it all!), as they say a tree that's forgotten its roots is soon to fall (okay I just made that up but I feel like it could be an applicable saying). It's good that it's doing its own thing but it would be nice to see just a little bit more of old Aang guiding Korra through her quest like Roko did for Aang. But of course Korra doesnāt need a spiritual guide becauseā¦. - Korra's a fast learner-- it took Aang hours to learn anything but Korra seems to pick all things impossible up in ten minutes, or even behind the scenes! We don't even see her learning how to de-evilies spirits. Who needs a spiritual guide when you learn things when your viewers arenāt even watching! I loved watching Aang learn things, because it made Aang feel human and relatable to me. Korra just seems to get everything in one go and thus the relatablitity for me is way off. - Not having a main villain. Itās great that Korra is able to whoop everyoneās butt buttttttt it was kind of fun connecting with the evil characters as well. The bad guys come and go and it kind of takes away from there seeming unstopableness and the buildup. So maybe Iām just stuck in ATLA mode because it meant so much to me, or maybe LOK really does need to step it up? Who knows maybe the third book will really make it come alive for me. Iāll stay tune because of ATLA in hopes that Book 3 will be a great and not just a good..Score: 4/5
Better than Season OneMany people disliked the second season, but I found that once it got past its kinks it engaged me even more than the first season did. The politics of the Water Tribes is a fascinating thing - and civil war is a heavy subject to deal with. Korra was a brat in this season, but it allowed her character to grow. She was controlled by fear in the beginning, and she overcame it in the end. Very good season. āKorraā is an excellent show..Score: 5/5

Losing MomentumI watched and loved the first season. The characterization was good, but the romance failed to improve the show. Season two relies too much on the romance, which is not the writersā strong point. Focusing more on the friendships would have given this second season more of what made Avatar: The Last Airbender so great. Sadly, this continuation of Korraās journey did nothing for me..Score: 2/5

By Season's EndThough I've my many qualms with the writing of this season, and Korra overall as it tends to pale in comparison to Avatar: The Last Airbender (this is likely since they've limited their pool of writers and eclecticism really did A:TLA wonders, but whatever), Book Two: Spirits is a vast improvement upon Book One. Where many of the characters fell flat or down archetypal pitfalls, where resolution clicked into place by seeming chance, where teenage love drama frustrated viewers accustomed to more mature themes with, paradoxically, younger characters, Book One has been LEFT BEHIND in all its unsatisfactory inchoateness. Book Two is much more mature. It casts careful balance between hijinks and realistic relationship troubles on one side and weighty consequential conflicts climaxing in world threatening doom on the other. Characters set in both or either of the two situations make well-deserved and resounding developments. I'll take issue with a LOT OF THE DIALOGUE, but otherwise, with regards to the writing, Book Two plotlines moves much more fluidly and interestingly than Book One. There's a serious issue with the sudden introduction of endgame conflict, thrust upon viewers mid-season and widely regarded by characters thereafter without much explanation as to how everyone suddenly knows about Harmonic Convergence simply because viewers do...but the cataclysmic scale of conflict begs viewers to recall Avatar, and the writers fare much better overall with the stakes raised so high. It's the norm for Avatar; I delight in its return for Korra. After all, Book One left viewers wanting in its anticlimax. Yet, along these lines, the writers stack up conflicts; the main problems of the season sort of swallow each other like increasingly angry Russian dolls. Grand scheme political conflict for the Water Tribes swallowed by impending Spiritual doom built into the ontological grounds of the Avatarverse, absorbed by chaotically evil plans for world domination from a formerly more lawfully evil character. (This season colors from gray to starkly black and white very quickly. Sure it's believable, yet it makes for less mysterious and exciting writing in my opinion.) Escalation here would present much better with SOME EXPLANATION! There's space for it, but it eludes writers and viewers alike. Moments such as Korra's season-closing speech lack finesse in composition to resonate with closure and satisfaction. Hmmmm...any other issues? Studio Pierot animates about half the season with far less executed prestidigitation than Studio Mir. Mir's return for the special origin story episodes, Beginnings (GEMS OF THE SEASON, THIS TALE, ABSOLUTE GEMS! Devoid of imperfections except for seriously grating lines of dialogue), couldn't be more satisfying. Art's always been this franchise's greatest asset. Book Two: Spirits is a whirlwind of colors and spectacles, lore and world-expansion, death and rebirth. Five stars? Yes of course. Problems? Oh plenty. Watch it, for the love of all animators.
