Academy Award®-winning director Alex Gibney [Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief] pulls no punches in his portrait of Apple founder Steve Jobs and his legacy. This probing and unflinching look at the life and aftermath of the bold, brilliant and at times ruthless iconoclast explores what accounted for the grief of so many when he died.
When Steve Jobs died the world wept. But what accounted for the grief of millions of people who didn’t know him? This evocative film navigates Jobs' path from a small house in the suburbs, to zen temples in Japan, to the CEO's office of the world's richest company, exploring how Jobs’ life and work shaped our relationship with the computer. The Man in the Machine is a provocative and sometimes startling re-evaluation of the legacy of an icon.

One star is not worthy of this thing. This documentary is not a picture of his life, his genius, or his contributions to the world. It's simply a poorly constructed depiction of a false portrait of Steve jobs. Rather than focusing on a wholistic explanation of Steve Jobs' life and his work, it simply focuses on a misinformed and misinterpreted painting of the man himself. It's hardly worth watching. A documentary of this nature should give an overall view of the bigger picture- not just a badmouthing of his character. It's clear that the filmmaker was out to say "Steve jobs was an awful man- the end". Not true. It's just a biased doc that tells a fragment of his story. It's unfortunate I spent the money on it..Score: 1/5
Something Is OffThe movie is interesting and highlights things we should think about. But the longer I watched the more determined it seemed to make its point by cherry picking topics. And it often lent a slant or emotional tone that was manufactured and often downright misleading. And there is a trivialization of the enabling nature of what he did. And an almost determined effort to obscure that people connected to him for his vision and success - to be a part of something thoughtful in a world of products and things so often reeking of the lowest common denominator. In the end it feels dishonest, like propaganda. Not for it’s choice of focus, but for it’s intellectual falseness..Score: 2/5
It tries to be fair. This movie desperately tries to be fair to Steve Jobs, a man who is basically the Edison of out days, and portrays him as a bad person, which he supposedly was. The problem is, the trailer mainly shows the parts of the movie where it is the most neutral to the man..Score: 2/5
Slanted propagandaThe entire movie's foundation is based on undercutting Apple and Steve Jobs, but not in a way to shed light. Instead, in a way to force an opinion with mean-spirited, cherry-picked, propaganda-driven sensationalism..Score: 1/5

CNN Hit PieceThe media is so puzzled why Jobs had little respect for them and others alike. Jobs is loved by the people because we saw his human side, his imperfections, and his failures, yet despite it all he built a lasting company that empowers the lives of many. Unfortunate events that took place in places such as China should be acknowledged but to place the blame on Apple?? Please if the reporters are such saints why don't they do something to fix it.
