This heroic action-thriller is based on the extraordinary true story of the greatest small-boat rescue in Coast Guard history. In 1952, a massive winter storm strikes off the coast of Cape Cod, ripping a T-2 oil tanker in half and trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly sinking stern. A GREAT MOVIE. How working as a Team to achive the impossible is better than the easy way out.The first 20-30 min you get to know a few characters then the rescue begins. Bernie Webber, previously unsuccessful to cross the bar on his last mission, has left half the town and people around him bitter. Bernie is determined NOT to let it happen again and embarks on a journey in weather no one would want to be in execpt Bernie. With his compase gone, Bernie does what everyone said he couldn't. The other side of the story you follow a torn crew who’s unchosen leader isn't respected by anyone, but his persistence leads the crew into achieving an amazing feat that never would be accomplished if it weren't for the team work effort by every crew member. OK Still wondering......why they would send such a small boat to rescue a full sized tanker ship ??? Im thinking that as they leave port and Im not even in the Coast Guard --- Then they get to the crippled vessel to see 22 people waiting on rescue -- mind you half the ship got ripped off -- so presumably we would have been talking probably another dozen people for sure -- Now when they got to the ship they counted 22 souls -- and at the end the dock worker announces ITS BEN and he has 22 rescued --- how soon we forget "Tiny" who fell into the ocean (after having been counted) and died -- so at most they could have had 21 rescued on board heading to harbor -.Preacher25Score: 3/5
Very GoodKind of hokey beginning as characters are established but the rescue story itself is pretty well done. The hokey beginning (see Carol: the 50's don't mean you have to be *completely* golly gee) and a couple other things stop it from being better. One of those things was Casey Affleck's hair in his face. I've never seen hair stand in for so much acting! The other was Pine's closing his eyes while piloting the boat, which made it seem like he was seeing the ocean in his mind, or following his fiance's thoughts or whatever. Like it!I watched this movie on the opening day. I cried at the last part and when Tiny fell down😪And when I cry I can't really stop it real quick, I was trying to control my tears coz I was in public place, the maintenance even saw me trying to compose myself then right after I got out the door a friend called and she noticed my voice " r u crying? Fantastic Story & Average MovieIncredible story of bravery, intelligence and luck. Pine is excellent, the rest of the movie was average. The entire film was fractured and seemed off. Developed characters for a few scenes and they rarely spoke again? Confusing and just lacked focus. The Finest HoursI have watched this movie many times and I feel honoured to know that such men as Bernie Webber exist. The movie captures the courage and stamina it takes to face a raging sea in a blinding blizzard. Bernie Webbie and his crew of three take a small boat out over the bar to rescue the men adrift on a tanker that has been broken in two by the storm-tossed seas. Just to get over the bar is a feat in itself, but without a compass and by sheer luck they find the broken tanker and rescue all 32 survivors—an amazing feat and a good movie..Not demented yetScore: 5/5
