THE KING’S CHOICE is based on the true the story about three dramatic days in April 1940, where the King of Norway is presented with an unimaginable ultimatum from the German armed forces: surrender or die. With Nazi soldiers hunting after them, the Royal Family is forced to flee the capital. In the best interest of the family, the Crown Princess Märtha leaves Norway with the children to seek refuge in Sweden, whilst King Haakon and the Crown Prince Olav flee to a small farming area just outside Elverum and meet the Germans head on. After three days of desperately trying to evade the Germans, King Haakon makes his final decision. He refuses to capitulate, even if it may cost him, his family and many Norwegians their lives.

Historically Misleading.Ignored the massive German invasion of Norway and failed to explain Hitler's full invasion plan. Instead focused only on the supposed heroics of the king, which is massively overstated. Excellent film about Duty, Honor, and DemocracyThis film is well crafted and acted. The cast down to every woman, man and child were superb. The plot is based upon German’s invasion of Norway and the Constitutional monarch King Haakon’s family. As the invasion unfolds the King struggles to find his role in the Democratic government’s figurehead. The Germans, however, want the King to cooperate and accept their puppet Prime Minister Vidkun Quisling. A sympathetic German Diplomat tries to stop the killing, but ultimately his deal is one that benefits Germany’s invasion.
This film relies on subtitles, but is easy enough to follow along. In times like this with American Democracy suddenly appearing shakey, this is a good film to remind us why democracies are good and Fascist dictatorships immoral and evil..Pearlsnaredrummet77Score: 5/5

Korunní princezna Märtha se v nejlepším zájmu rodiny rozhodne opustit s dětmi Norsko a hledá útočiště ve Švédsku, zatímco král Haakon a korunní princ Olav utečou do malé zemědělské oblasti nedaleko Elverumu, kde se střetnou s Němci. Po třech dnech, kdy se zoufale snaží vymanit z jejich spárů, učiní král Haakon finální rozhodnutí.
