Based on the best-selling novel, The Hate U Give tells the story of Starr Carter, who lives in two worlds: the poor, black neighborhood where she resides and the mostly white prep school she attends. This uneasy balance is shattered when she witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood friend by a policeman. Facing pressures from all sides, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.
Two worlds. One voice. No going back.. Raised in a poverty-stricken slum, a 16-year-old girl named Starr now attends a suburban prep school. After she witnesses a police officer shoot her unarmed best friend, she's torn between her two very different worlds as she tries to speak her truth.. The Hate U Give Wiki
This movie is real eye opener. I highly recommend it.
Every person in these reviews that gave this movie a 1 star are either white, Uncle toms or cops! This movie is a great example of how it is to be an African American in this world!
I am a 17 year old white women. this movie brought me to tears from start to finish. i mention i am white because this movie is such an eye opener. it really shows how life is like for people living these lives. its a powerful film, it actually had me sitting on the edge of my bed not wanting to miss a second. everyone needs to put the controversy aside and acknowledge the talent of the actors, the powerful message, and the importance of the film. must watch.
Okay first of all if u are racist towards blacks this isn’t the movie for u,, this had an amazing concept and brought me to tears thinking this is what our world is actually like it Depicts what it was once like in the world and how far you’ve come it also can be really funny and is overall probably the best movie I’ve ever seen!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Portrays the fiction that MSM has constructed, rather than statistical facts.
The producers of this movie took way too much artistic license in making this movie. The book is really good but the trashed the story in the movie. There are events and conversation in the movie that are not in the book. The movie fails and completely misses Starr's inner turmoil and conflict between her dual lives brought on by the murder of friend. The book addressed this conflict. They cut so much substance and took so much license it isn't even the same story. It is a bad screen adaptation. I suggest reading the book. With that said the the acting is okay and story itself, even as told, portrays a reality in our society and that is that black men are summarily and routinely being gunned down by law enforcement. That our law enforcement have become militarized and infiltrated by supremacists a fact to which a good portion of our society ignores and turns a blind eye.
reading through the reviews i’ve noticed that people are saying it’s super racist. it’s supposed to show what it’s like in present day and how others treat others differently, it’s supposed to be unsettling. it shouldn’t make you happy it’s a very powerful book and movie. i’ve read the book and it’s really shocking that all of this actually happens. it’s really moving so please actually pay attention and try and understand before you get mad about how racist it’s supposed to be.
Never read the book, already know that this was hate fueled race baiting identity political BS. The one thing that is so ironic is that there are African American police in the force yet blame it on appearances. The really stupid part of it is BLM which is totally BS disrespected law enforcement (Men and Women alike regardless). Those chants of "Fry them like bacon", that is referring to all in the force but I have heard that circling back BS of "It's just the whites that we hate". Utter garbage. I know that there are African Americans who know different than the BS author who wants to spread lies and the actors are crap.
Such a great movie!!!

If you think this movie is great, wait until you read the book!
