Based on the best-selling novel, The Hate U Give tells the story of Starr Carter, who lives in two worlds: the poor, black neighborhood where she resides and the mostly white prep school she attends. This uneasy balance is shattered when she witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood friend by a policeman. Facing pressures from all sides, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

I’ve only started learning about the discrimination that African Americans have to go through. This movie is just a movie but it’s a movie that impacted me it gave me new perspective. Coming from Hawaii we don’t have as much discrimination in the islands than the mainland has. This movie is not rant it is a wake up call. They are making their voice known and I’m glad they are. African Americans and more nationalities shouldn’t be dominated by a certain race. I believe in happiness with all races. Malama Pono!
This movie offers the dynamic we often see played out in our daily world and gives solid advice when being addressed by law enforcement. It shows both sides of the why and how and impact of something like this happening.
It is a beautiful movie showing different perspectives on life for the African American community, people might think this is a awful movie but it shows a message that means more than we think.
Great movie that does not get enough credit
Best move, hands down! It gets into depth of everything behind closed doors! I loved it!
I bought it but it won’t let me watch it
This movie is garbage, leftist propaganda that tries to portray police officers as killers not the hero’s they are.
I will not lie, I cried the entire time. It’s not just a movie, not just some made up Hollywood storyline, this is happening in the real world and that’s the reality. It’s heartbreaking.
While I applaud the filmmakers for making this film, I didn’t like this film because it’s just so heavy handed and ham fisted. It came off more as a social justice infomercial than anything else. This also promotes a culture of violence and of victimhood and a lack of personal accountability. I wanted to like this because it’s “edgy”, but when the filmmakers beat you over the head with the theme too many times, it’s time to check out and find something else to watch.
More lies about police and whites. The black community needs to look at their own but can’t leave the liberal plantation..
This movie explains what a girl from a poor neighbourhood has to go through and racisim quite fairly. It inspires you to speak up too. Get a tissue box ready because this is a tear-jerker. Loved the movie.
this is the best movie and book i have read/watched in a long time.
This movie was amazing! It truly shows a great meaning and it is the best movie I have ever seen!
This is the best movie I have seen in a very long time. I was definatly sobbing through most of it but it has such a powerful message. I'll be reccomending this to everyone i know.
If you think this movie is great, wait until you read the book!
