FINALLY, after months of waiting!I love British comedy, especially the Monty Python series and the movies (though I have only seen The Meaning of Life all the way through). For those that aren't familliar with this movie, here's the basic idea: The people behind Monty Python take you on a journey through the many obscurities and good things in life (whether real or not). Through the absurdist gross-out humor, this is bound to please. Please note, however, that this is not for the light of heart; there are many scenes of nudity, gore, and pea-soup vomit to account. Lackluster yet still worthwhileI first bought MP Holy Grail, loved it after three viewings Next was Life of Brian. Some jokes still made me laugh with an uncontrollable nature. Yet, there were parts that made me consider ending the film. As far as The Meaning of Life goes, I feel like it is their (Monty Python’s) exit of the filming industry. One example here, the last scene you have one of the regulars, I can’t name him, sorry, talking about what it takes to get a movie put out into the world. He talks of non typical Monty Python approaches. Rather, it is sex, graphic, crude, and gender bias comedy that makes people happy (Family guy comedy?). Look to the past. Hmmm...This movie is interesting. It does have a lot of the absurd humor that dominates Monty Python movies. However, this is a rather darker comedy than I expected. Český Snímek Monty Python: Smysl života postrádá hlavního hrdinu je to přece svět viděný rybami skrz sklo akvária a v rozbitém světě pro něj není práce. Není se s kým ztotožnit, s kým a pro co trpět. Z lidskosti zbyly jen okamžiky, kdy smolaři jednotlivých miniosudů stojí tváří v tvář své opuštěnosti. Z hlavního hrdiny minulých filmů zbyla jen tvář Briana na kříži (opuštěná maminka na sále jen s přístrojem, který dělá pink, udivený pan Kreozot po výbuchu, synek, kterému dle všeho umřela maminka, taťka bez práce s osmaosmdesátým dítětem na cestě). Je to podobné, jako když se Gogolovu Revizorovi vyčítalo, že postrádá kladného hrdinu, a on si v dopisu příteli smutně postěžoval, že tam byl, jen si ho nikdo nevšiml že jím je přece smích. Zde jako poslední naděje lidstva.

On a Midnight Clear 2000 years ago, three wise men enter a manger where a babe is wrapped in swaddling clothes. It is an infant called Brian...and the three wise men are in the wrong manger. For the rest of his life, Brian (Graham Chapman) finds himself regarded as something of a Messiah yet he's always in the shadow of this Other Guy from Galilee. Brian is witness to the Sermon of the Mount, but his seat is in such a bad location that he can't hear any of it ("Blessed are the cheesemakers?"). Ultimately he is brought before Pontius Pilate and sentenced to crucifixion, which takes place at that crowded, non-exclusive execution site a few blocks shy of Calvary. Rather than utter the Last Six Words, Brian leads his fellow crucifixees in a spirited rendition of a British music hall cheer-up song "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life." The whole Monty Python gang (Chapman, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, and Terry Gilliam) are on hand in multiple roles, playing such sacred characters as Stan Called Loretta, Deadly Dirk, Casts the First Stone, and Intensely Dull Youth; also showing up are Goon Show veteran Spike Milligan and a Liverpool musician named George Harrison.
