Written and directed by Academy Award winner Sofia Coppola (2003, Best Writing, Lost In Translation), Marie Antoinette is an electrifying yet intimate re-telling of the turbulent life of history's favorite villainess. Kirsten Dunst portrays the ill-fated child princess who married France's young and indifferent King Louis XVI (Jason Schwartzman). Feeling isolated in a royal court rife with scandal and intrigue, Marie Antoinette defied both royalty and commoner by living like a rock star, which served only to seal her fate.
An Austrian teenager marries the Dauphin of France and becomes that country's queen following the death of King Louis XV in 1774. Years later, after a life of luxury and privilege, Marie Antoinette loses her head during the French Revolution.

BeautifulOne of my favorite movies. I watch it almost all the time. The movie doesn't have any dialogue but I don't think it needs to. It's very unique in that way. The movie kinda feels like it's a bunch of Marie Antoinette music videos all sewn together. Adding modern music to the movie was very cool and interesting, it helped us identify her not for just a queen but as a rockstar party animal. Love this movie!!.Score: 5/5
StunningVery often i hear critique on this movie but im afraid I have to disagree, If your looking for an accurate, intelligent movie on the history of Marie antionette and the French Revolution, this most certainly is NOT it. However this does not make it any less WONDERFUL as a movie. Its sexy and fun and light with costumes and sets to absolutley die for. If your not one for that description than undoubtably you probably wont adhere to a "music video" like portrayal of 18th century france and its royals. To anyone else, I would heartily recommend this movie. Absolutley SMASHING..Score: 5/5

A movie that was conceived and made on drugsI have no idea what the filmmakers were thinking. This is some sort of weird abstraction. I'm surprised they didn't have her twerking, texting her BFFs, and taking selfies..Score: 1/5

Palace of VersaillesIf you're never going to Paris (Versailles is just outside Paris) or are anxious to see where King Louis lived - this movie delivers on this one thing - it beautifully displays Versailles and more than that you are able to see it as the ultimate backdrop to how life really was in that time. Like a travel doc of Vesailles. If you love luxury, this movie hits the spot. Plotline is okay, it does exist, and Marie Antoinette ultimately proves to be the product or 'victim' of her upbringing, not entirely her fault - ultimately some sort of redeeming quality emerges and "let them eat cake" takes on a whole new meaning..Score: 4/5

Completely vacuous - like watching a photo shoot for 2hoursI'm baffled by the good reviews, honestly. This is my least favourite movie in a very, very long time. Absolutely nothing of interest happens in this film at all. I watched Tree of Life yesterday and had no problem staying interested throughout., but this was sheer emptiness and was very difficult to sit through. I can't believe this is the same woman who wrote Lost In Translation. No reason to watch this unless you are a fashion designer. No character development, no dialog, no reason to care about any of these people at all. The music, which is 80's pop, is frequently jarring. I can't convey how deeply, deeply uninteresting this movie was. Not worth the money. I wouldn't recommend it if it was free. I wouldn't recommend it even if you are sick in bed and have to choose between watching this movie, or staring at the wall. The wall is more interesting, believe me. There must be an interesting backstory to this total train wreck because I can't believe anyone would have made a movie like this on purpose..Score: 1/5
Exquisite! This movie was absolutely beautiful, I loved every bit of it, constantly wishing I was alive in that era. The costumes, the acting, the whole story is enchanting. I also appreciated that the entire story was not shown, and the gore cut out :) Bravo!.Score: 5/5
Brilliantly doneThis movie uses anachronisms to equate 18th century french court life with the excesses of 80s celebrities, and to highlight the fact that in the end, Marie Antoinette was a spoiled and sheltered teenager who lived in a high-stakes but champagne-soaked bubble separate from the realities of normal working people. The end result is a colourful and fun mood piece. If you want a period drama, this isn’t it, nor is it what it’s trying to be..Score: 5/5
RefreshingHaving gone to Paris and seen the Palace de Versailles, it was refreshing to see this movie. It let me know who Marie Antoinette really was. Though I got the sense of her while on my trip, I never actually thought I could really put a finger on what kind of a person she was. It was a modern spin on French culture and really helped you understand what she, her family and the country was thinking and feeling..Score: 5/5
