In 1972, master of horror Wes Craven wrote and directed this groundbreaking film that shocked the world and launched his career. When two young girls, Mari Collingwood and Phyllis Stone, head to a concert in the city, four psychotic prison escapees kidnap them with the intention of driving off to another state. But in an ironic twist, their car breaks down in front of Mari’s house. After the girls are forced into the woods where they are tortured and left to die, the gang unknowingly heads to Mari’s house posing as salesmen. Mari’s parents soon uncover their daughter’s fate and the true identity of these guests - and take bloody revenge. It’s a terrifying assault on the senses originally banned in Australia and the UK. First time I ever saw a horror flickWOW, 1972 made me 12 at the time. My sister worked at a movie theater and I got in for free. Gave me nightmares I remember to this day. It was also the first time I ever saw a girls boobs, I was sure I was going to go blind. Watch this movie for it was Wes Craven's 1st film..TruckHappyScore: 4/5

Good effort...but falls short of classicIf you go into it thinking...its a low budget, 1970s, poorly acted, Craven-directed no less, horror flick then it definitely entertains! It's hard at times to get through the slap-stick dark comedy that ensues, but it's nice to see the tables turned. It definitely inspired many horror movies..and I also recommend seeing the original before any remake!.MBD86Score: 3/5

Still as effective as it was in 1972I saw this when it was originally released in '72 and remember people running out of the theatre. I still watch it to this day and it still gives me the creeps. Some movies which should not be produced...For the recent remake of the movie: PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU RENT THIS MOVIE: I have never thought I would ever say this but there are just some movies that should never be produced. I love thriller movies, but this movie is not a thriller movie - it's a disgusting twisted X-rated screwed up movie. Graphically showing young girls being sodomized goes too far and does nothing to make me want to watch more. How these thugs victimized a family and the needless gore that is shown in the process is revolting. I've heard of people watching this in the theatre who just got up and walked out. Shame on the producers of this movie. If you decide to watch this, be prepared for some very disturbing material and I would STRONGLY suggest that children stay far away..ChristhereviewerScore: 1/5

Good GodWhat the hell? After all the hype, I thought I’d be having a serious existential crisis after watching this thing. Instead, I’m wondering if I’ll ever get the dipsh!t banjo interludes out of my head. Complete piece of crap. Only excuse for cranking out a story this stupid, with acting this bad, and the horrible, horrible music is the money, and there can’t have been much of that, since the whole thing looks like it was made for about a buck-fifty. Umm.Well umm..i just got done watching it and it's creepy. I do not enjoy the thought of being raped, and hurt be sick people. Some parts are just like screwed up, and not something you want to watch. I have to admit, if does keep you on the edge.
