Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) reunite as sci-fi geeks taking a pilgrimage to America’s UFO heartland. There they meet a smart-ass alien, Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen), who takes them on an insane road trip. As they struggle to return Paul home, the little green man might just take the outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes. For the past 60 years, a space-traveling smart-ass named Paul has been locked up in a top-secret military base, advising world leaders about his kind. But when he worries he’s outlived his usefulness and the dissection table is drawing uncomfortably close, Paul escapes on the first RV that passes by his compound in Area 51. Fortunately, it contains the two earthlings who are most likely to rescue and harbor an alien on the run.

Yah . . . that is some funny shhhstuffWhat has occurred to me several days after seeing this, twice, was just how well done the computer generated Paul character is ! ! ! ! Five stars for that. He looks so real. You can feel his skin with your eyes when he touches some thing. Seriously well done ! Serious language in this. One thing about that . . . Paul spent like sixty years detained by the military until he escaped because they wanted to dissect him ( they had pumped him for all the knowledge he could come up with ). He learned to speak english from the military etc. Some say art shows our culture to us or some such. I am not saying anything against the military but I know people who have been in and this is pretty much the way they talk to each other. Paul is just mirroring that. He is being hunted down for gosh sakes; you would get a little intense to I bet. I don't EVEN want to get into the religion thing here. Jesus would have probably forgave him ( don't you think ?) or at least laughed with him now and then. Lighten up. Can you picture that in your mind ? Jesus laughing ? Jesus poking fun at him self ? If not I think something is missing here somewhere. If they had spent some time in area 51 and had more tech in the movie then I would have given it five stars. I was entertained and would watch this movie again. My significant other . . . welllll . . . even though she likes sifi she said she could skip it..Tone531Score: 4/5

Bigots!Yeah, I said it. Merriam-Webster Definition: "One who regards or treats the members of a group with hatred and intolerance" Completely unnecessary to the plot. Could have been funny, it had all the ingredients, it had a good cast, filming, etc, but they had to ruin it. I know most people will disagree with me but substitute any other group of people in this plot besides Christians and the public would speak up..Play.lilred.meScore: 1/5

CraptacularDon't believe the hype! This movie reeks of suckyness. I almost turned it off after 15 min but my morbid curiosity kept me watching until the end. There was this weird bro-mance three-way going on between the alien and the two main characters. Jason Bateman's character was incredibly flat and dry. And I was most disappointed in Sigorney Weaver's performance. She did voice over for most of her role that sounded like she was reading it right off the paper for the first time. I understand that this is a comedy, not supposed to be taken seriously. But come one. Since when is an alien trying to convince another character that he is "special" too funny. It came across as sad and uncomfortable. Sorry, this one gets an F!.FourfourScore: 1/5

AverageI loved Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. An amusing film, no more. As for the religious jokes, I love satire and irony. It was all very clumsy and quite poorly written. And I love Monty Pythons Life of Brian. If you're going to make fun of something, do it cleverly. PS: to all the really offended people - you need to lighten up. The main point was to make a joke out of creationism and they don't really need to do that do they?.A*G*HScore: 3/5

Rent the unrated verions. It's fabulousThis movie is great! However, it's british humour, so if you don't get that, you won't "get" the subtle wit of this movie. If you're an american, chances are you won't understand the humour anyway. It pays tribute to all the great alien encounter movies made by hollywood, in a playful manner. The ending is sweet Actually, I love the jabs at the american rednecks and the religious nutjobs! They're just rich. Anyway, as someone who DOES get the british humour this movie is fabulous. The only thing I didn't think worked was the christian girl learning to swear etc. It missed the mark and it made her rather annoying. For the unrated version, people were complaining about the language so the following comment was made for them: The british use colourful language in adult comedies so just put your big kid pants on and stop the whining about the swearing.
