James Stewart, Rock Hudson and Shelley Winters light up the screen in this timeless portrayal of the Wild West and the heroes who tamed it. Stewart plays Lin McAdam, a frontiersman who wins a Winchester rifle in a marksmanship contest. When the prize is stolen, he doggedly pursues it as it passes among a motley group of characters—including a crazed highwayman, a corrupt gunrunner, a savage young Indian chief and even his own dangerous brother—until the final, rousing shoot-out. Winchester '73 Film Synopsis
Lin McAdam rides into town on the trail of Dutch Henry Brown, only to find himself in a shooting competition against him. McAdam wins the prize, a one-in-a-thousand Winchester rifle, but Dutch steals it and leaves town. McAdam follows, intent on settling his old quarrel, while the rifle keeps changing hands and touching a number of lives.

WINCHESTER 73OUTSTANDING! I grew up around 94 Winchester, and 336 Marlin firearms. 30 30, and a Winchester 44 40. What a rifle! James Stewart and all supporting cast are excellent. Great movie - but don't waste your $ on HD.This is a terrific old-school black & white western film. It's especially fun to watch Rock Hudson and Tony Curtis appearing as young actors in "paying-their-dues" minor roles.
All performances are strong and the engaging plot moves briskly. This film belongs on any list of Hollywood's "great" western movies.
