2029 - A female government cyber agent and the Internal Bureau of Investigations are hot on the trail of a "The Puppet Master" - a computer virus capable of invading cybernetic brains and altering its victim's memory.
In the year 2029, the barriers of our world have been broken down by the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in the form of brain-hacking. When a highly-wanted hacker known as 'The Puppetmaster' begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of cybernetically enhanced cops, are called in to investigate and stop the Puppetmaster.

Even Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel said this was a masterpieceEven though I generally do not trust those reviewers, especially Roger Ebert for saying that the original 1954 Godzilla sucked and yet he felt that Ang Lee's Hulk was a comic book movie masterpiece like Sin City, these reviewers are right on the ball about this. This movie is great with its storyline, the characters are three dimensional, the science fiction concepts behind this are great, the soundtrack is great, and last but not least......it is beautifully animated. I want alot of people to get a look at this shining example of brilliant anime if they want to learn how to make a great one. The only anime that could possibly beat this masterpiece is Akira [which would probably please alot of otakus on iTunes]. There are two different anime versions of Ghost in the Shell [the films and Stand Alone Complex], but this one personally is the best of them. Before James Cameron made Avatar, the film that made alot of his fans (including me) disappointed, he said that this is a masterpiece. Bottomline, if you love science fiction or anime or perhaps both I suggest that you check this out [man, how many times have I ended a review like that?]..Score: 5/5

If Blade Runner were an anime...Now, when I say this, please understand that I'm not saying it's a rip-off of Blade Runner, I'm implying that it possesses many traits similar to Blade Runner that made each of these movies the great pieces of cinema that they are. A Blade Runneresque Movie for AnimeI still remember watching this movie when it first came out back in the 90's and even then was hailed as a masterful achievement. For what it's worth, it really is. Masamune Shirow created the legendary graphic novel before it was conceived onto the movie medium by director Mamoru Oshii & somewhat evolved into an animated Blade Runneresque kind of movie. Set in an almost believable 2029, the movie tells the story of a female cyborg and leader of an assault team from Section 9, who hunt down a hacker known as the Puppet Master. A hacker who has the ability to hack into the minds of humans. You will get a clear sense of where movies such as the Matrix came from when watching this. Since Robotech, I pondered on whether I would ever see such creativity and story depth again but Ghost answered that for me. Although this is nothing like Robotech and certainly not everyones cup of tea either, there is an arty perfection on many levels. Magnificent!.Score: 5/5
FinallyThey finally added the Japanese audio track. It also looks like it's the CC subtitles instead of the latest blu-ray 25th Anniversray Edition subs that are rittled with mis-timing and spelling errors. Thank you for the update Apple!.Score: 5/5

Forget Evangelion, GitS is THE defining work of the anime genreWhen I first had the opportunity to watch Ghost in the Shell I was slightly put off by the violence and heavy atmosphere of its tone. To me, this movie absolutely requires repeated viewing in order to apprecieate its visual symbolisms and philosophic explorations. If you like anime or science fiction of the Blade Funner or cyberpunk variety then you must---MUST watch this film.
