When a young woman meets a violent death after partying at Verdant, Detective Lance and his partner, Detective Hilton (guest star ROGER CROSS) inform Oliver and Tommy that she was on the drug Vertigo. Oliver immediately pays a visit to the mental institution where The Count (guest star SETH GABEL) is locked up, but finds he is in no condition to deal drugs. However, when The Count escapes and Starling City is flooded with even more Vertigo-related violence, Oliver and Diggle make it their mission to track him down. After Detective Lance uncovers incriminating evidence against him, Tommy goes to great lengths to clear his name, and the fallout from his actions leads Tommy down a new, unexpected path. In a flashback to the island, Oliver recalls the lessons he learned from Slade and Shado (guest star CELINA JADE)..

Not my cup of teaVery frustrating program. Slow and totally boring while being so predictable in so many places. I liked the concept but at the end of the first series felt I had wasted my time as well as money on watching it. Despite my criticism, I actually liked some of the actors and think they did well with what they had in terms of stilted dialogue, so for that it gets 3 stars and not the two I felt I first wanted to give it..Score: 3/5

Everything wrong with gritty reinterpretations in five episodesThis is the story of a man who got shipwrecked on an island for 5 years and therefore decided to hunt down and terrorise a list of people his father vaguely suggested might not be the nicest people. And he was on the island because his mother sabotaged their yacht to kill his father, and she also wants him dead for no apparent reason. Within days of returning home, Oliver Queen becomes a fully-equipped vigilante with all sorts of weapons that he had no possible way of obtaining alone, which he uses to kill countless henchmen in cold blood, threaten and extort people he doesn't understand and just generally cause pain and devastation in the world's most poorly lit docklands. He claims he's doing good, especially when he targets another vigilante who kills his own targets. But Oliver is also a killer, so there is no moral high ground and this is basically just a turf war. And he's incapable of keeping his escapades a secret; He's caught on CCTV placing his gear and recovering it. But the police let him off because the investigator had a personal grudge and no one else was available apparently, meaning that the only reason there are more than five episodes is that the police in this city are utterly incompetent. Arrow is visually dour, morally repugnent, needlessly convoluted and full of plot holes..Score: 1/5
Another missed opportunityWhat a waste of a concept. Terrible (and I mean god awful) actors! Casting based on looks is pathetic. To be fair they are given some of the most stilted, incomprehensible dialogue so maybe not entirely their fault. I was so excited for this comic book to be made into a regular series instead of a movie every two years. Recast and try again..Score: 2/5
