But as tensions rise with the outbreak of World War I, the trio must set passions aside to survive as the world around them crumbles and one of history’s darkest yet rarely told chapters unfolds before their eyes.
Elmer Jackson is a carpenter in a small Californian town in the 1930s. Struggling to bring up 4 young boys after the death of his wife, he is horrified when the Government (citing trumped-up charges of parental neglect) places the boys into various foster homes and institutions, unaware of the abuse that boys would then be subjected to. The conditions imposed by the court and the difficulties caused by the Depression make Jackson's determined and vigorous quest to find his boys extremely difficult.

A Must See MovieA very sad and yet beautiful movie; nothing at all what I had expected...it was much more. The sheer will and perseverance of people could never be measured by any scale and this movie shows a perfect example of it. And even more so, to this day, Christian Armenians still prevail! Missed opportunitySuch an important part of history, the director had a golden opportunity to educate the world about the genocide against the Armenian people and yet what does he do...bogs it all down with a lame love triangle. This should have been more Shindlers List or the Pianist...this is about genocide so drive the point home!!! Parts of the movie was laughable as it focuses more on the love story than history. Disappointing..Score: 2/5

Another great movie from Terry GeorgeWow! I was blown away by the cinematography in this film. The landscapes were absolutely beautiful! Found the story captivating, and the relationships in the movie were very believable. They entwined the historical story line of the Armenian genocide along with the romantic plot quite well. Acting was well done, especially on the part of Christian Bale. Glad its on iTunes, felt it was worth buying as I would definitely watch again..Score: 5/5

...then sprinkle 3 teaspoons of fiction...stir until blended to make a movie based on historical facts that has been personalized with storytelling. This movie reminds me of the novels written by James A. Michener. It's as if you are learning something (usually dark & grim) through the eyes of the characters that (might have) lived it. I recommend this movie. Because those who forget history are doomed to repeat it..Score: 5/5

Eye opening, heart openingI will be the first to admit with all the illegal immigration and issues with refugees that are happening in the world today, I have become very skeptical and cold to the hardship and fight of these people. Watching these poor people driven by pure will and survival to the very edge of their world and even out to sea was heartbreaking... and even more heartbreaking to know this was true story and part of history. I will agree this other reviews this was awesome history lesson and one of the best movies I have seen. Well told, well illustrated, eye opening and softens the heart in a cold world..Score: 5/5
