Tobey Maguire ("Spider-Man 3," "The Good German"), Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner Reese Witherspoon ("Walk the Line," "Legally Blonde"), Academy Award-nominee and Emmy-winner William H. Macy ("Fargo," "Wild Hogs") and Golden Globe-nominee Jeff Daniels ("The Lookout," "Good Night, and Good Luck") star in this modern day fairy tale where an entire fictional town is granted a chance to experience the comedies and dangers of real life when two late 20th Century teenagers accidentally bring living color to a mysterious suburb trapped in a black-and-white '50s utopia--and set off a revolution. This film was written, produced, and directed by Academy Award-nominee Gary Ross ("Seabiscuit," "Big").

Geeky teenager David and his popular twin sister, Jennifer, get sucked into the black-and-white world of a 1950s TV sitcom called "Pleasantville," and find a world where everything is peachy keen all the time. But when Jennifer's modern attitude disrupts Pleasantville's peaceful but boring routine, she literally brings color into its life.

Amazing Flick, a Must BuyMy brother and I saw this in the theater thinking it would be a silly slapstick comedy. Wow, we were wrong. Not only was the story extremely enjoyable and thoughtful, but the special effects were actually quite stunning as well - like when a tree lights on fire and reflects in color onto black and white objects. ...there's a reason it's at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes..TwiskScore: 5/5

It took my breath away.I was just watching The N, channel 133 on cable, when I went to channel 134, the WAM Encore channel. This movie was on next, so I looked at the info. It seemed interesting. But, it was better than interesting. It shows a lot about segregation, education, safety, and love. I never thought it was going to be as good as I thought. Anytime it's on TV, I watch it until the end. I'm amazed by this film. What a flick!.Acm2007Score: 5/5

One of the great stories of all timeWhat if you could move into a town untouched by the seven deadly sins? A town where every soul was as fresh as the morning dew, and perfection was simlpy taken for granted? First you'd learn that their exposure to the "outside" was strictly and completely limited, for to know history is to know the very things that steal your innocence. When the innocence starts to go, it snowballs into an avalanche of human nature, the stuff of religious sermons. Joy and desire. Guilt and shame. This is the "better world" of our collective memories, always set in someone's childhood, which never really existed, and never can exist. Its awakening to the world we actually live in is beautiful and emotionally moving. Pleasantville is what happens when we try to live in that magical past that we remember, but never really was. A Touching, Realistic Portrayl of the Perfect LifeAs you watch the movie, you really get a clear glimpse on what society would be like if we were to all live in the perfect world, with the perfect life. It really shows you the reality of how life would truly be. There would be no emotion, sense of knowledge, or sadness. Quite frankly, it would be as boring as you could get. No excitement. The film attempts to promote the changes to the idyllic town as a liberation, but it is an unwanted liberation.
