Far and Away Film Synopsis
A young man leaves Ireland with his landlord's daughter after some trouble with her father, and they dream of owning land at the big giveaway in Oklahoma ca. 1893. When they get to the new land, they find jobs and begin saving money. The man becomes a local barehands boxer, and rides in glory until he is beaten, then his employers steal all the couple's money and they must fight off starvation in the winter, and try to keep their dream of owning land alive. Meanwhile, the woman's parents find out where she has gone and have come to America to find her and take her back.

Old fashioned romantic adventureReminiscent of classic romantic adventure films, Far and Away is ambitious and unpretentious entertainment. As with the best of Howard's films it also finds great comedic moments as well.

PersonalThis movie is not a typical romance; the in-depth development of both lead characters gives depth to the plot itself and the relationship. Also, this movie has a very personal message to every viewer: understanding the importance of the one you share your dreams with, the one you wouldn't even want your dreams without. AMAZING!!!This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Tom Cruise even sounds like a real Irish Man! The acting and quality of the movie is the best! It was made in the 90s and it has better quality than some of the movies I have seen today. I highley recommend it for anybody. It has fighting and a love story that will send your heart flying! First this is really 1 of 2 movies that I like Tom cruise as an actor in. The other one being The Last Samurai.
Yes he has other movies that are good but as an actor I find him subpar.
It really is a great story where him and his soon to be wife Nicole Kidman (now ex). Really had great chemistry and it was a representation for how the time back in those days were. Irish, scots, and any other European people were literally all just slaves. The only way they could survive was by living under the boots of the British immigrants who were wealthy land owners.
