Chris Taylor is a young, naive American who, upon his arrival in Vietnam, quickly discovers that he must do battle not only with the Viet Cong, but also with the gnawing fear, physical exhaustion and intense anger growing within him. While his two commanding officers draw a fine line between the war they wage against the enemy and the one they fight with each other, the conflict, chaos and hatred permeate Taylor, suffocating his realities and numbing his feelings to man's highest value... life.

As a young and naive recruit in Vietnam, Chris Taylor faces a moral crisis when confronted with the horrors of war and the duality of man.

Absolutely One Of The Best FilmsThis right here, hands down. The closest thing the every day civilian is going to get to combat without having to live it. While in recent years some great War Stories have come out of Hollywood. This set the standard for not just movies. But storytelling. Everything afterwards, wouldnt have had a leg to stand on without this movie. The drama between the troops, the hardships of everyday life in the jungle, in combat. The constant threat that seems to loom over them regardless of wether they are on patrol or taking some down time in the wire. The way they are able to find something to smile about, when there is absolutely nothing to be happy about. Of all the war movies Ive watched. This is the only one that doesnt irritate me when I sit down to watch it. It gives us the dramatic effect you expect from a war movie without losing touch with what really goes on during combat. The loss of friends, of innocence. The loss of oneself if you cant keep your head on straight. Definitely pick this movie up if your looking for something entertaining and makes you think about things..Allegiance86Score: 5/5

PlatoonA disturbing film that is often difficult to watch,nevertheless the consummate film about Vietnam. The entire cast's efforts are phenomenal, especially Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, and Tom Berenger who is menacingly frightening as an out of control sergeant. Platoon: The first casualty of war is this movie.This film portrays all vietnam soldiers as crazed, high-on-drugs killers. It is loaded with F-words and lame 80's special effects. AmazingThis movie captures the era of it's decade. Between the music, lifestyle, and ideas, you can really feel that you're in the late 60's. This movie does an amazing job of analyzing the idea of war and what an average human being goes through mentally and physically. Insanely Good!!This movie is one of the best war movies of all time! It is so similar to the actual vietnam war, even down to the tiny details. The actors do an outstanding job acting as American soldiers. but it is not all fighting the VC, it even takes a look at the controversies within the platoon which is part of why it is so realistic. A haunting, yet beautiful experiencePlatoon may not have the best effects but it is a very powerful film. Unfortunately it is over shadowed by other big name Vietnam war movies (apocalypse now, full metal jacket) but it delivers the paranoia of a soldiers real duty. For first time watchers it is very intense. The scene where Chris is helplessly watching the VC approaching is so scary I would have hated to experience that scene in theatres let alone in real life. The blend of cold and kind characters really brings you into the movie. I consider it my favourite war movie because it was made by a real Vietnam veteran and it managed to get its own special place ahead of Saving Private Ryan. Even though Saving Private Ryan was better I like Platoon better for its realistic nature. Good for 13 up.LRLEBLANCScore: 5/5
