From legendary director Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus) comes a gripping tale of human strength and the will to survive. During a mission to Mars, American astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead and left behind. But Watney is still alive. Against all odds, he must find a way to contact Earth in the hope that scientists can devise a rescue plan to bring him home.

I like the book
Most AWSOME show , I recommend it highly
I’ve watched this at least over a million times
This was without a doubt the most boring movie I ever saw. Unless you just love Matt Damon skip this one. It is an exercise in mind blowing slowness and lack of anything happening. The whole movie could have been filmed in half an hour. How it was up for an Oscar is beyond me, but this movie was a great disappointment.
Great plot,highly realistic
I loved this movie! Made me cry 5 times!
This is another example of Ridley Scots great film directing the story is well paced keeps you on your feet and can’t keep your eyes off the screen one of the best human space exploration movies would recommend to everyone
One well-drawn character, and many others that should have been. That's the big weakness in the story. It makes the inevitable ending melodrama instead of thrilling and meaningful. It's got humor and that helps the long story. 4.25 stars.
Great movie. I recommend it.
Trailer not loading I assume it’s my unlimited Comcast/Xfinity interference since I have cellular data off. Apple you still have problems with ISP providers & cellular providers. I have unlimited Data for both service providers yet I still get interference with just trying to view the trailer! Viewing the rented or purchased movies worse.
The book and the movie both are amazing and totally recommend them both 👍🏻
In this age of science denial, I'm not only glad that this film was made, but am ecstatic that it got the reception it did. Despite the futuristic technology and farfetched plot devices like the storm, the science pays service to the story in otherwise quite realistic and plausible ways, making the audience believe that this is a very real potential future for human space exploration that we can expect to see in our lifetime. Engaging story, likeable characters, fantastic lead, and stunning visuals, this is a film I will continue to rewatch for many years to come.
Far from realistic but great movie that uses humour well and keeps you guessing what will happen next. Enjoyed it.
Some of it was overdramatized and so it cut some of the realism out of the (for the most part) credible storyline. However I am so glad this movie was long. As a detail oriented person the more info I observe and think about that intrigues me (like NASA, ESA, CSA, as a whole-the more interested I become which in turn raises more questions the answers. That's one motive that made this movie thought provoking and ultimately enjoyable. If this movie was condensed down to 90 minutes I think it would have not been as good a quality a film can be in relation the "science fiction" journey to Mars even though that "science fiction" will soon be history. (Not that the manned mission to Mars will be or at least one would hope it to not be as horrific of a scenario as this movie shows. But nevertheless - never say never with regards to what could potentially happen to and from Mars). Interesting but slow movie which I like. The slowness brings in part a small part of reality that everything takes incredible amount of time when dealing with galactic space travel and inhabiting the uninhabited - like Mars and every other planet and moons.
This one is up there with my top favourites. Action, sci-fi, inspiration - it's got it all. And as always, love Matt Damon in the role.
• Been in love with this movie ever since it came out! Matt Damon did an amazing job in this, and so did the entire team of actors within the film I respect the way they made this film, and can't wait to see what's next for the actors and the companies that created this • I also bought the entire soundtrack from The Martian, one of my all time favourite soundtrack albums Nothing but love for this movie
Have ppl lost their mind?? All these stars and great reviews.....this was such an average movie with a BIG BUDGET.thats it.And Matt Damon lol is the same pillburry doughboy as usual.Pl are just brain washed about him and his acting. All u need in life is some luck and being in the right place and right time!
The Martian is the most captivating film I've ever watched. I've watched it over 20 times and it makes you want to keep watching. My favourite movie of all time! Rank 10/10 and I rate it #1. Matt should've won the Oscar.
Really slow movie took me over a month to finish it
The story line is awesome, cinematography at its best and the actors show great performance. The best scene is when the commander goes to search for him ( mr whatney ) during the Mars storm. That was extremely touching to see her courage and bond to each members of the crew.
