If this is what Star Wars is supposed to be like, then count me out. I didn’t grow up with the original trilogy. We I finally did see it, I thought it was good (7/10) but not some masterpiece. TFA and Rogue One I thought were pretty on par with the original trilogy. Fun and entertaining, that’s pretty much it. Ironically, TLJ was the first Star Wars movie I thought was great (the second overall that I’d rate 8/10, the first being Empire Strikes Back). It’s one of the only SW movies that actually has any depth. I consider plot holes nitpicks, so any actual plot holes (I see a lot of people bring up holes that aren’t there in the first place). The character arcs were phenomenally written and some great action set pieces. I remember thinking “this is what a Star Wars movie should be.” But apparently not... Idk, I thought Solo was alright. It wasn’t great, but certainly not terrible either. It had some cringe-worthy dialogue (one of the things TLJ actually fixed, but I digress) and quite the predictable formula. Many narrative elements felt forced in just to be a Han Solo origin story. Han Solo has absolutely no arc, and I felt it was trying so hard to be fun that it failed to be deep or meaningful in anyway. But reading these reviews, apparently Ron Howard “gets it” and this is what Star Wars is “supposed to be”. So apparently that means nothing thematically impactful or powering, and just fun entertainment and no plot holes, got it. Sorry, Star Wars is clearly not for me.
I enjoyed this. It had some mandatory Hollywood social garbage and revisions in it, but it didn’t break it. This is a standalone Star Wars movie, so the plot was fun but not deep. Acting was good. The actor portraying the young Han Solo did a good job. Seriously folks, takes courage to even attempt to take on Ford’s Han Solo. The movie plays out like a novel, which is very nice considering the garbage we’ve been getting from Star Wars lately. I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was 7 years old, this is ranked as 3rd or 4th on my favs list.
I could have written this story better. Two stars is a gift. Won’t buy or rent any Star Wars movies going forward. Watched this for free on netflix. Star Wars story lines are now awful. Avoid and may the force disappear never to return. Good Bye Star Wars...it has not been fun.
This movie is a very helpful film to understand Han Solo’s early life. None of the movies before have described his early young man life, just his middle life, and his old life. It also shows the Millennium Falcon under Lando.
The plot was phenomenal with Darth Maul and twists and turns. Donald Glover also played Lando amazingly
I’m revising this thing a little. Spoilers below.⚠️⚠️⚠️ I have been watching Star Wars since the beginning of my life, and seeing all the movies and shows and most of the legends and canon comics I can safely say that there is little I can say that would make it amazing, after seeing the Last Jedi I really didn’t have much interest in Solo and I saw it and was saying it was good but not great. It could have been better. Lets start off with Solo himself , his character is ok, at least we know how he got the name “solo“. He doesn’t give you the same feeling. ( I didn’t expect him too either.) Chewbacca was good as always , at least I know how they met each other. He is a pretty cool character, and I like how they applied the " rip your arms out of your socket idea“ makes Chewbacca much more dangerous, i just feel like his character is somewhat shortened in the movie. Beckett was one of the best characters in the movie, his skill with a blaster makes him better as a character. I’m really unhappy of what they did with him later on in the film. That’s really all I can say regarding what I liked. What I hated was the other characters that were completely ruined in the movie. Some characters were there just to make the movie more interesting but fail to because they get killed in very crappy ways less than 20 seconds into the movie. The potential good writing and storytelling is shattered when there deaths occur. Qira is one character I simply don’t understand. She’s there just to be some girl who seems nice but does some crappy stuff in the end. And next thing you know she is kissing Solo then says goodbye then is working for the one and only Darth Maul then leaves the movie. It’s not like we’re going to see her in another movie again, it would make more sense if she died or something like that it would have been better for the han/ liea relationship. Darth mauls cameo alone is cool but it’s not like anyone will care because of his death in rebels at this point Disney is just desperate to get money. This arc can’t really go anywhere so it’s about as pointless as the movie itself. Lando i found it be somewhat accurate but ultimately I cant see it with him. L-3 was a weird character that I didn’t find funny but more so weird and sketchy. The fact that her and lando apparently had a “relationship“ ( you know what I mean ) was completely ridiculous. Then she dies too.( like K2SO in Rogue One except his death was more meaningful. ) And they made the empire look really dumb and childish in the movie, particularly when Han is fighting Chewbacca in the muddy jail room, the two storm troopers instigating the fight but act childish when doing so is very sad. Not to mention the fact that there not even the main villain in the movie isn’t making it any better. Dealing with criminal organizations and so called gangsters in Star Wars doesn’t give the movie that type of awesomeness we should get, it’s not that intriguing. Overall a solid 3.5/5 it was better than the last Jedi, that’s all the compliments you’ll get from me, especially after seeing that piece of Batha Poodoo . Overall you can do better. I hope episode 9 can do a better job. ( notice how i said hope....).
I might be the only person in the galaxy who knows what this movie really is: It is a fun, thrilling, exciting movie. Alden Ehrenreich totally rocks the role of Han Solo... as does Donald Glover for Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke is absolutely gorgeous. L3-37 is funny, and all the rest of the cast show some of the best acting Star Wars can dish out. Bottom line: If you want a roller coaster ride, feel-good flick, do yourself a favor and see Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Loved this movie. It really fills in the pieces of Hans life and brings more depth into Star Wars Episode IV.
Without Ford as Solo, it doesn’t feel right to replace the actor, along with the plot that doesn’t make it feel like a Star Wars movie.
This movie was so cool I loved it and it was amazing that they kind of told chewies back story I absolutely loved it so if you haven’t seen it yet and you might watch it but you don’t know if it will be worth it then I’ll tell you now that it is awesome.
This is my favourite Star Wars film, everything you want in your Sci Fi: action, good plot twists, comedy and just a dash of romance. Buy it, don’t just rent, you’ll want to watch it again.
Heart-breakingly bad in almost every way but Chewbacca was very very cool.
The modern ‘style’ of Star Wars is dispatched finally with a style and story of its own. Building a trove of new characters married with old legacy personalities, as told through the wonderful lense of Ron Howard. SOLO is a return to the adventure, wonder and fantasy of the original films, with some of the best design, costumes and locations since EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. An absolute must-see Star Wars film, with exciting new characters and a story that is truely original, exciting with the customary twists and turns you expect from a Star Wars adventure.
A fantastic Star Wars story, watch and love it! Don’t jump in with the haters that haven’t even watched it, great characters, traditional plot, honours the space western origins of Star Wars. I’m looking forward to the sequels.
If you love the Millennium Falcon, and Chewbacca, you’ll enjoy this movie. Otherwise go watch Infinity War and don’t complain.
