Acclaimed director George Stevens’ legendary rendition of the quintessential Western myth earned six Academy Award® nominations, and made Shane one of the classics of the American cinema. The story brings Alan Ladd, a drifter and retired gunfighter, to the assistance of a homestead family terrorized by a wealthy cattleman and his hired gun (Jack Palance). In fighting the last decisive battle, Shane sees the end of his own way of life. Mysterious, moody and atmospheric, the film is enhanced by the intense performances of its splendid cast.

A weary gunfighter attempts to settle down with a homestead family, but a smouldering settler and rancher conflict forces him to act.

Another George Stevens ClassicI was 10 yo when I first saw this movie and Alan Ladd became THE cowboy hero of me and my friends for a while. We all wished we were Brandon de Wilde. Thank, God, we were too young to see the flaws that adults saw in this movie. My child still loves this movie and I recommend it to anyone who loves oater classics..SegabearScore: 5/5

ShaneGreat film, but it is TERRIBLE that you do not offer this film in High Definition. This is clearly the same glorious transfer that is on the Blu-ray, but coarsened here in standard definition. I own the film on Blu-ray, and wanted to have it on my iPad. You now offer many similar classics in High Definition. Someone at iTunes didn't realize how "Shane" relies for its power on its breathtaking visuals, which have been significantly diminished here. Please offer it in High Definition. Shane - timeless and worth the timeA great Western or a great history are those whose stories reach across the genre. Sure, there's a lot of classic Western Icons here - the deerskin clothes, the fast draw, the good guys in white hats and bad guys in black - but Shane is one of the reasons they ARE icons. A great story that's so much more than fast draws. One of my favorite moments is when Ben Johnson leaves the bad guys to come tell Shane what's going to happen. As with all great movies, the big moments are there, but it's the little moments that tie the story together and raise it above the background....and the little moments often get cut out of the versions shown on tv, so get this movie and watch the story as it was MEANT to be told!.S leeScore: 5/5

The End Of The Cowboy HeroThis is a classic movie. Albeit kind of a downer. This cowboy (hero) on his horse who comes into save the day. But only he knows he is not the mythical man as everyone thinks he is. The end of the movie is on the some of movies critics top quotes of all time. Our heart is broken with the kid at the end of the movie as the "cowboy hero" disapears with Shane. We find out life is not that innocent and neither is the hero Shane..ObithecatScore: 4/5
