Robin Hood is the inspiration for more movies, radio and TV programs than any other folk hero, but the man in tights and a feathered cap is a recent addition to the myth. The Real Robin Hood probes the fascinating story behind the marauding vigilante of English folklore. In reality, the character is a composite of actual historical figures whose exploits date back to the Crusades, a dark time of tremendous brutality. Coinciding with the 5/14/10 Universal release of the film Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, director Ridley Scott will also produce this dynamic two-hour television special. The Real Robin Hood features highlights from the film, as well as interviews with Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe and renowned historians..

The price of each disc not on itunes is more than $3.99 (the Plague is $19.99 if you buy it online). Cost per episode reasonableI have been a fan of the History Specials for years. I don't get everyone listed as some appeal but other episodes don't. Most Scientists and Religious Experts AgreeI just watched "Seven Signs of the Apocalypse." Although this episode is advertised as a documentary that reveals something about the book of Revelation, it's really just an excuse to cut quickly between stock footage shots of possible global catastrophes and CGI effects. Also, according to this documentary, a common link between all of the prophesies of Revelation exists (and apparently "most scientists and religious experts agree" on this - as the narrator must have said a dozen times). Lots of flash, not much substance...The History Channel Specials are a weird mix of science, history, pseudo-science and conspiracy theories. It's obvious that more emphasis has gone into the entertainment value than education, as the viewer is bombarded with snippets of info (some of which is questionable) without much explanation. This has resulted in inconsistant quality of the specials. For example: "Crash: The Next Depression" offered a clearer explanation of the financial crisis than the equivalent Frontline episode and was a quality show on its own. Whereas "The Gates of Hell" was disjointed and boring, leaving the viewer with more questions than answers. I recommend this series for those who think "Ghost Hunters" are real..Score: 3/5
