Who was the first U.S. President from New York? What pre-Revolutionary event involved an unauthorized boarding of the Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver? This school year, thousands of students from across the U.S. faced tough questions like these in the first annual National History Bee Competition. The top scorers, one from each of 32 regions, qualified for a two-day National Championship held in Washington, D.C. on May 11-12, where one young scholar walked away with a $50,000 scholarship and a national championship title. HISTORY will air the final rounds of this first-ever, fast-paced competition, in which students will race to demonstrate their knowledge of history from a wide array of eras and disciplines. Al Roker will serve as the moderator during the competition, and the special will be hosted by HISTORY/H2's Brian Unger. Joining them as a roving reporter will be Rutledge Wood from Top Gear, along with expert commentator Bob Harris..

Most Scientists and Religious Experts AgreeI just watched "Seven Signs of the Apocalypse." Although this episode is advertised as a documentary that reveals something about the book of Revelation, it's really just an excuse to cut quickly between stock footage shots of possible global catastrophes and CGI effects. Also, according to this documentary, a common link between all of the prophesies of Revelation exists (and apparently "most scientists and religious experts agree" on this - as the narrator must have said a dozen times). Needs to drop priceThe history of the world in two hours does in fact explain how water came to be: it started as vapor. Then it rained. Some other guy said it didn't explain it but it does. Great ShowsFirst I have to say that the price is not too much. when you add 1.99 and 3.99 together with over 100 episodes you find that is the correct price. Anyway you can just buy the shows separately. I love the shows on The History Channel, very informative and worth the price..Score: 5/5
Exodus DecodedThis episode attempts to give scientifc answers to how the Hebrews made their travels from Egypt to the Promise Land. It was the worst History episode I bought. Superstorm 2012 (e158) - GLOBAL WARMING PROPAGANDADon't buy episode 158, Superstorm 2012. I was looking to educate myself with some real scientific explanations and information, instead I was inundated with left wing global warning propaganda the entire time. This may be the worst piece that History Channel has created; there is no story or stories of people, there is no data or information that we all didn't hear about on our own local news channels, and there is no insight from experts, scientists, or meteorologists. Instead History Channel drug the bottom of the barrel with school teachers from community colleges, Al Gore global warming activists, and the Brits telling us we should look to them for engineering direction. 102 Minutes that Changed AmericaI was a bit disappointed in this. All it showed was amature video of all the confusion. Lots of flash, not much substance...The History Channel Specials are a weird mix of science, history, pseudo-science and conspiracy theories. It's obvious that more emphasis has gone into the entertainment value than education, as the viewer is bombarded with snippets of info (some of which is questionable) without much explanation. This has resulted in inconsistant quality of the specials. For example: "Crash: The Next Depression" offered a clearer explanation of the financial crisis than the equivalent Frontline episode and was a quality show on its own. Whereas "The Gates of Hell" was disjointed and boring, leaving the viewer with more questions than answers. I recommend this series for those who think "Ghost Hunters" are real..Score: 3/5
