Fun but could use some finishing upVisually stunning, this story quickly becomes confusing. Elves seem to be the same as humans and their grand moment in history happened 30 years ago. The stories of the current elf king and shannara king also seem to overlap. Funny scene with the two elves sharing a moment and then a sound in the brushes and there, right at their feet is the wounded druid, apparently having snuck up right next to them and fallen..Score: 2/5
Cliche-riddenI'm finding it hard to stay interested in a show that covers all of the cliche bases. What could've been a great fantasy series is melted down to cheese deluxe. With teen hormones and angst at the forefront and dialogue you've seen and heard a million times in countless shows, it doesn't break new ground at all. The monsters all look like ones you've seen in movies and video games. Not even John Rhys-Davies can save it. Shape changer disguised as the king hugs his son and the cliche eye change during the hug, just to remind you that yes, he's a demon shape shifter and not the king--as if we didn't already know. The show treats us like we've never been to this rodeo before and I wish there was new ground broken, but it's pedestrian all the way. Maybe it's because I've read so many books in the 70's and 80's with the same basic story. For once I wish the formula would change. Flying demons that scream at the camera for no apparent reason. A boy who has powerful magic but doesn't know how to use it and can't figure out how to use the magic stones effectively (when we all know the stones have nothing to do with it, he doesn't need them). And of course, being a show in today's society, we can't leave out the homosexual themes. Ugh. I have to force myself to watch the rest of the season because I bought it..Score: 2/5
...this show is getting ever darkerWell, once again a show that LOOKED like it had real promise, is becoming darker and darker. In the torture episode, we never really see tortureā¦only a bitā¦.but we now have a ācoming outā of a key character. The on-going gender optional agenda in almost all modern media entertainment is becoming all-pervasive. There seems to be no escape. 1.5%-3% of the entire population (and only a handful of these, actually) have forced their lifestyle on everyone. The in-your-face nature of this agenda means that, eventually, those who prefer to flow with the plan of Nature for men and women, will be forced to endure watching graphic or near-graphic violations of Nature. Even spelling it out and complaining might soon be censured, in deference to this agenda. This is assured by a rampant social agenda for political-correctness. Itās like moral quicksand that, once you step in it, down you go. The only way out is not to step in it! I paid for the series. I had high hopes. I Thought this might turn out to be a decent show teens and adults could share. It seems this opinion may have been premature? How far from acceptable this show deviates morally, depends on how low their ratings drop. This is how it works. Ratings slide ā¦ and in comes the gender-twisting agenda in a desperate attempt to raise those ratings. Then, a bit more graphic violence, if this doesnāt work, and so on. WRONG approach ā¦ yet, nowadays this seems as predictable as taxes. It is a shame too. The show has some good acting, reasonable special FX budget, HAD some interesting story arcs. Nowā¦I sense the slide down. Episode 5 was the last decent episode that lacked the implementation of the minority-that-would-be-a-majority agenda. TerribleI am very disappointed in this TV series. I have read the book and there are only a few similarities. I don't like the new characters added to the TV series, they don't add any value to the plot. I find the main characters in the TV series whiny with poor acting. Ugh!!Can't believe this comes from people with such pedigrees. The casting is mostly terrible; it wasn't cast for the story but for marketing the Talent. I know some of the directors and can't believe what's been done; obviously there hands were tied from Studio and budgetary constrictions; hope they enjoyed the trip. The series is basically a bad Coles Notes version of an adaptation - the audience is given snippets; like reading the first page of a book and flipping through many blank pages until you find another couple pages entrusting you to stitch the story together yourself. Hah! Fill in the blanks. Hate to be pessimistic but there's really not much to be positive about. Great work with set design: within budget for sure. 10 year olds and younger might enjoy it, otherwise, big skip. Too bad cause the books were obviously awesome. An epic like Shannara really needs someone with vision and the right Studio to back it to do it appropriately: look at Game of Thrones, The Expanse for examples of doing it right..Score: 1/5
