Poor work, despite top notch source materialI had high hopes for this show, but each episode became progressively worse. In the end, I was only watching because I'd paid for the season. Fool me once... I will not purchase remaining seasons of such poor quality work. Somehow, this project has distilled an excellent work of fantasy into something that misses every mark. I would expect that Terry Brooks would have had more say in things, but I don't see his genius anywhere in this particular rendition of the story. The scripting is cheap and pulls on obvious strings rather than taking any interesting risks. The acting is passable, but hardly impressive. Manu Bennett is the only actor with range, although Ivana Baquero does well and shows great potential. The rest of the cast is just overacting and not engaging. The set, scenery, and costumes are very good, and they are my only reason for a second star. I realize that, at 45, I am not the audience for an MTV production. It IS good to expose a younger audience to high fantasy they may not have seen, but that doesn't mean that it is acceptable to dumb things down to sloppy choreography, wooden script/acting, and ill-timed sexy moments..Score: 2/5

Its OKLoved the books. Was hoping for more Lord of the Rings type production verse what seem more like Twilight ( young kids in love tension ) and CW nightly show production. I think the books deserved more, but Terry Brooks did signed off on this. With this said and putting that behind us, what they have adopted for TV is watchable and entertaining. I think many give it a 5 for having waited so long to get it in made into a movie or TV, but a 5 is to much. Strong 3.5 is more fitting ( mainly due to the TV script verse books), but we still have the rest of the season. There is potential for improvement. I will say the sets, locations, and graphics are pretty good for TV series, and it helps the watchability greatly..Score: 3/5

Ugh!!Can't believe this comes from people with such pedigrees. The casting is mostly terrible; it wasn't cast for the story but for marketing the Talent. I know some of the directors and can't believe what's been done; obviously there hands were tied from Studio and budgetary constrictions; hope they enjoyed the trip. The series is basically a bad Coles Notes version of an adaptation - the audience is given snippets; like reading the first page of a book and flipping through many blank pages until you find another couple pages entrusting you to stitch the story together yourself. Hah! Fill in the blanks. Hate to be pessimistic but there's really not much to be positive about. Great work with set design: within budget for sure. 10 year olds and younger might enjoy it, otherwise, big skip. Too bad cause the books were obviously awesome. An epic like Shannara really needs someone with vision and the right Studio to back it to do it appropriately: look at Game of Thrones, The Expanse for examples of doing it right..Score: 1/5
