Imperfect, but still funFirst thing to know about this show: it is NOT an adaptation of Terry Brooks' Elfstones of Shannara, but rather loosely based on it. Do not go into this show nitpicking every change the producers have made or you will lose your mind. That being said, the show on its own is actually very entertaining and even surprisingly original. Sure, the teen drama has been upped to an embarrassing degree and the over-the-top PPP soundtrack can be grating, but the visuals are stunning and the world-building is spectacular. This show has the potential to be truly great, but for now it has a long way to go..Score: 4/5

Very goodIt's much better than many people are giving it credit for..Score: 5/5

Cliche-riddenI'm finding it hard to stay interested in a show that covers all of the cliche bases. What could've been a great fantasy series is melted down to cheese deluxe. With teen hormones and angst at the forefront and dialogue you've seen and heard a million times in countless shows, it doesn't break new ground at all. The monsters all look like ones you've seen in movies and video games. Not even John Rhys-Davies can save it. Shape changer disguised as the king hugs his son and the cliche eye change during the hug, just to remind you that yes, he's a demon shape shifter and not the king--as if we didn't already know. The show treats us like we've never been to this rodeo before and I wish there was new ground broken, but it's pedestrian all the way. Maybe it's because I've read so many books in the 70's and 80's with the same basic story. For once I wish the formula would change. Flying demons that scream at the camera for no apparent reason. A boy who has powerful magic but doesn't know how to use it and can't figure out how to use the magic stones effectively (when we all know the stones have nothing to do with it, he doesn't need them). And of course, being a show in today's society, we can't leave out the homosexual themes. Ugh. I have to force myself to watch the rest of the season because I bought it..Score: 2/5

You can tell who dies by whether the actor is ethnic or not/oldThank God MTV didn't get rights to produce Game of Thrones. You can tell that the executives MTVized the Shannara storyline to appeal to young, unsophisticated audiences. But because the audience is so young and have lower standards for entertainment, this show will probably still succeed. The use of modern music in this show is distracting and takes one out of the fantasy realm, dialogue is very basic, it has a soap opera for teenage girls storyline, and you can tell who is going to get killed in the show by whether the actor they cast is ethnic or old....Score: 1/5

Can't wait to see moreThe books are great I read them over 20 years ago. Glade to see it in film form. Is the acting compared to LOTR??? Well no... Some characters you can tell are A+ actors, other this is their beginnings. With that being said the story still pulls you in and you want to see what is next. Can't wait for more to come out. I will buy the seasons to add to my collection..Score: 5/5

How about putting out the episode before the featuretteThe show for a show is enjoyable, but can we please, please put out the episode, before the featurette, for anyone that has looked at the title of the 5th featurette, well what more do I need to say, episode, then featurette, not featurette, then a week later the episode.Score: 3/5

Just meh.It is not as horrible as The Seeker. But it is not great either. The visual aspect of the costumes and landscape is done really well. But the story … oh the story .. what an example of mediocrity and bad writing. The dialogue and acting come off as amateurish. Everything done here seems to be written by someone that doesn’t read fantasy novels..Score: 2/5

DissapointedYes it needs to be adapted to screen I get that but all the kept from the book was the characters names nothing of the story even resembles the book. So why not just write your own story. Very disappointed wishing I could get a refund on the season pass its not worth it at all. I will always be a big fan of Terry Brooks and his books, wishing he did not sell out is all..Score: 1/5

Ugh!!Can't believe this comes from people with such pedigrees. The casting is mostly terrible; it wasn't cast for the story but for marketing the Talent. I know some of the directors and can't believe what's been done; obviously there hands were tied from Studio and budgetary constrictions; hope they enjoyed the trip. The series is basically a bad Coles Notes version of an adaptation - the audience is given snippets; like reading the first page of a book and flipping through many blank pages until you find another couple pages entrusting you to stitch the story together yourself. Hah! Fill in the blanks. Hate to be pessimistic but there's really not much to be positive about. Great work with set design: within budget for sure. 10 year olds and younger might enjoy it, otherwise, big skip. Too bad cause the books were obviously awesome. An epic like Shannara really needs someone with vision and the right Studio to back it to do it appropriately: look at Game of Thrones, The Expanse for examples of doing it right..Score: 1/5
