Review of the entire seasonI decided to write the review after watching the entire season. My favorite episodes of the season include ‘Listen’, ‘Time Heist’, ‘The Caretaker’, and ‘Mummy on the Orient Express’. Those episodes made the season worthwhile. Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, the Special Effects, and the music was fantastic. I even somewhat enjoyed Missy as the Master, though I was hoping more that she would be the Rani. The writing, in my opinion, let me down, especially after the previous seasons with Matt Smith. In fact, every time there was a reference to the 11th Doctor, I became very nostalgic. Though Peter Capaldi is great, I can’t seem to enjoy this doctor as rapidly as I did the previous doctors. For example, Matt Smith and David Tennant captured me in their first episodes, and Chris Eccleston had me by the second episode. Paul McGann, in his Webisode, made me wanting more (I really wish they would do the honor of tying in the 8th doctor a bit more…Paul was great). I was even drawn into the War Doctor, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th doctors immediately. My problem has more to do about choices in writing. For example, though Danny Pink is a relatively enjoyable character to watch, his apparent disrespect for officers (though perhaps justified) has questionable ethics to authority. Also, if we are going to explore Bible ideas (paradise, afterlife, and things of that nature), let’s have some accurate Bible knowledge. I also thought that the timeline with Danny Pink just got a paradox (see ‘Listen’), unless Clara is pregnant…which then leads to other moral issues, or there will be a future explanation in which maybe Danny Pink comes back (like Rory). I did not enjoy Clara and Danny’s relationship because of their recent comparison with Rory and Amy. Rory and Amy in my opinion was fun for several reasons. They did love each other; they had their problems, but in the end, they chose to be with each other and proved it with many sacrifices. Rory seemed to get better with every episode, and when he was touched by an angel, I felt emotional at the loss. Clara, though a great companion, I felt was not shown the proper respect in the fact that she had saved all regenerations of the doctor by traveling through his timestream. Also, though I think ‘Flatline’ was a fun exploration as Clara playing the role of the doctor, she is not the doctor. She is a companion, and the doctor needs a companion as elegantly explained by Amy in ‘A Town Called Mercy’. I think the final episode was a let down. No great ‘out-thinking’. I felt the doctor’s role was almost questionable. Danny’s face did not need to be so drastically altered as a Cyberman (I could not take him seriously). No relevant role for the kid whom Danny killed (wouldn’t that had been great if they had partnered up some how). Stewart’s assistant’s death, in my opinion, was needless. I liked her character since the Day of the Doctor, and to see her die seemed unfortunate. Maybe they can find a way to bring her back. Finally, where is River Song? At then end, I feel the doctor’s alien attributes best serves him off the planet earth…so I’d like to see episodes that put the doctor in more alien settings with only sporadic visit’s to earth (like in the Caretaker). At least Lethbridge Steward got his salute (finally showing some respect to officers, and well-deserved)..Score: 3/5

Worst Doctor of the New SeriesI was really excited when I first heard that Peter Capaldi would be taking over the role of The Doctor from Matt Smith. While Matt Smith was a pleasant surprise, Peter Capaldi has been a longtime favorite. Unfortunately, this season has failed to live up to its potential. Some of this may be Capaldi’s desire to make The Doctor more “alien”, but a good portion of the blame must fall on the writers. This season had some of the worst plot lines I have seen in years. The plot seemed disjointed in places - our first introduction to Peter Capaldi as The Doctor leaves the viewer wondering if there was another Prequel episode somewhere that would fill in some of the gaps. While there is always SOMETHING of a gap between seasons, this is by far the worst I have ever seen. Much of this seasons seems like they were either running short and started grabbing 10-second ideas to fill time, or else they had a lot of 10-second ideas and weren’t patient enough to write them into full episodes. I can only hope that Season 9 brings some improvement..Score: 1/5

Potential never achievedI wanted so much to say that I loved this series, unfortunately I can't. I did like Peter Capaldi. I struggled with the attempt to make it a kids show or an extension of the Sarah Jane adventures. I didn't really understand what the purpose of Clara was and I despised the character of Pink. Iwas completely boring to have Missy return and complete nonsense to have the Doctor visit Robin Hood. I found the writing quite inconsistent. Maybe in the next season these identify issues can be worked out. I like the humour and the scary bits but please avoid the cutsyk kiddy stuff..Score: 3/5
Buy the ENTIRE Season Pass in NETFLIX insteadI have been a fan of the Dr. Since the early 70’s and have seen all of the episodes. I really hate to say this but: Save your money, the entire season pass in NETFLIX is only 6$ so don’t waste your money on the iTunes season pass. Sure you get all the behind the scenes stuff, but the Christmas Special IS NOT included in this TV series. Unlike the BBC in England, BBC America releases the Dr. Who Christmas Specials as a separate “TV Season” in iTunes - at a huge price to the consumer - without any season number to organise it according to where it should be in relation to the rest of the series and then BBC-America and ITunes re-releases the entire season a while later with the special included, often at a discounted price! For that reason and that reason only I am rating it with 1 star.. otherwise the BBC UK (Not US) has done a wonderful job with this show - long may the Dr. reign supreme..Score: 1/5

First episodeSomething was very disjointed with this first episode. Also I think if they have to make an episode about explaining why the doctor looks older than the previous one, then - right there it should be a warning sign. A bit like, if you have to explain a joke, then it isn’t properly funny. Without Jenna Coleman, this episode would have had little strength.
